Regarding + Theme: add theme color for selected track background
I use to have my track image as just a highlight around the edge of the track panel like below. Would it be possible to have something like that as an tickbox option in theme editor?
I've never really found a colour setting that really let's me know with 100% certainty what I have actually selected. Especially with lots of differently coloured tracks and with a few selected at once.
I'd even like to see a highlight option around the item or at least the top and bottom edge. Like we did before with the top edge line highlight option in preferences.

Now we just need to be able to customize muted tracks color or at least make the option to not dim them too much.

I think instead of a color, there should be a blending mode. Or maybe, in addition to the color, there should be blending mode. Because as it is now having a single color (well, two, for odd and even tracks) disrupts the arrange view vertical division option.

+1, with Z-depth setting if possible, so the track highlight could be applied either to background, or both background and items on the track as well.

Do you mean the muted track overlay, which currently makes the track and items darker? If so, +1.

Area Selection Bug
I 've posted at v6.13+dev0729 but i'll post here as well in case none of the devs will see it.
As i hold right click+drag and then press the modifier to ignore snap, instead of ingoring snap for the edge i drag to extend, it moves the opposite edge or both of them to another position.

RE: Area Selection
I am obviosly late to the party, but would it be possible to add "Create (Add to) Area Selection" commands to the "Media item bottom half+left drag" context? Pretty please

+1 (Trying to be nice, I'm not putting down a +1000 or anything )
For tracks AND items AND AIs! A highlight around the edges that is easy to turn on - in the theme tweaker, for example. This is my only serious gripe about Reaper's appearance.
I think it is a UI priority to make obvious what's selected and what's not, whatever track or item colors are in effect.

Wouldn't it be better if the background color could follow items? Meaning when we move an item to another track, after we release the mouse, to colorize the track where we dropped the item.
here's how it's done in Ableton:

About inserts in TCP. On Default 5 themes, the vst name is too close to the left edge of the strip.

It would be great if the track background could follow the TCP colour, visually seeing where you are in a large session by seeing the arrange view colours representing track control panel colours would be amazing!
Selected track colour background is a good step in this direction to start off

When I copy or duplicate horizontally an area selection containing MIDI items, it shifts the MIDI data inside of the MIDI items if there are tempo changes on the way.

And you still need to decide what to do with the stretching of split items. Most likely you don't need to stretch items outside the area selection. If the item was originally a whole, then stretch midi items with splitting them, and create stretch markers on audio items. No stretching required for split items.
Here is a video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mXb...ew?usp=sharing This situation resonates with perception
Or another option is to bring this idea to the end and stretch not only split midi items, but also stretch split audio items
I would make it easier - no stretching items outside of the area selection, because it is conceptually confusing.
In general, if anyone has better ideas, please support this!

thanks for the AS fix! looking good here.
__________________________________________________ ______________
i think a "selected track divider line" theme color entry would be best for my use.
__________________________________________________ ______________
i tried "selected track background," but noticed that it seems to add whatever color you chose to the "muted track background" color. this is a little unclear to my eye. "track divider line" colors vary less, so if they popped out, they'd be super visible.

Thank you very much for the cursor's bracket on selected track, it will be very convenient for those, who do not use the Default_6 theme.
Thank you for your attention !!!

And by the way, the envelope points should also obey stretching along with items according to this idea, but outside the area selection the envelope points still do not obey stretching.

Another AS weird behavior.
Devs, i think that moving envelopes with AS needs some fix. Mostly when i select a part between envelope points in order to move it, AS adds points but leave the previous envelope part unaffected as shown in the gif. If i select the whole envelope and it's points it does move the whole arrea without leaving the previous envelope as it should.
Could you please fix it so it works as normal AS with envelopes? It should move the previous selected part as well between the envelope points, so it should leave an empty space with edge points.

This might be done by using track color as a basis and overlay it over selected track with blending modes and alpha. Then I believe it would be possible that colored and uncolored alternatives could be themed?
And when doing this, track color for unselected tracks bg would be a logical companion.

Both of these can be done right now, it is just a themers option via imagery, my tcp has a color bar for coloring and the selection outlin elike you want, but it is the color of the chosen color.

Thank you for making the selected track color themeable. Very helpful!

Agreed, I really wouldn't want to lose vertical division in arrange for selected tracks. A blend setting would work, or it could just follow the normal vertical division settings, using 'odd' and 'even' to dictate the two colours that are used for vertical division. Then if we want the selected track lighter or tinted, we just need to use the same 'track background odd/even' colors that we already have assigned for vertical divisions in arrange, and lighten/tint them appropriately for the selected track option in the theme editor.
I also agree that it would be GREAT to see this themeablity applied to muted track shading. I dream of the day I don't have those big black bars cutting up my lovingly organised projects

I see people want different options for the track selected color. If an image was used, we could add any kind of lines and transparency we want. I’m sure it’s more taxing on the CPU, but it would be worth it in my case.
If it were pink-lines-enabled we could even add fancy effects like a shadow at the left edge.

Agreed.
And if this image doesn't exist then it could default back to the new setting instead so best of both worlds.
