+ ReaSynth: fix portamento on non-overlapping notes [p=2309212]
Thanks. I'm sorry to say that this still isn't working properly though.
Although notes now don't need to overlap to produce a portamento effect - they DO still need to be full-length - but they shouldn't need to be! Playing ReaSynth from a keyboard in real time means that we won't hear the portamento effect unless notes are always played exactly full-length or longer - which inevitably doesn't happen consistently.

In the conventional implementation of portamento in a synth, notes played consecutively glide from one to the next even if the first note is played staccato (very short) and the two notes are separated by several seconds or more. This gives a much more consistent result with real-time performance.

Devs - if you need more info in order to understand what I mean, please check out the portamento feature in Surge - it's a good example of what I'm talking about here.

I joined the forum after dealing with the new portamento. I'm lovin' it but it does have its issues. In specific, I have found that if you have a gap between portamento notes (like it exits the song and comes back later), the program will hang onto this note until it comes back later in the project, and this held note will bend back to the note where reaper began to lose track, so it is inconsistent every time.

If just playing back through a few midi notes, i might be able to escape free of the held note, but if i play a couple bars or so, Reaper seems to get confused every time and hold onto this note.

I have been able to clear this issue by automating the bypass on the ReaSynth whenever these gaps arise, but it has to be very finely-timed, or else the held note will erupt again, even if no midi notes are present at the point of unbypass.

Furthermore, these held notes also appear in the song when rendered. But the bypass method has been my best fix thus far. Now hopefully it was worth joining the forum.

Portamento can be fingered-only or always active. You want always active, while RS5K has fingered (legato) mode.

First of all, juan_r, thanks for your comment because you just made me think a little more deeply about this issue.

Well, yes, you are of course quite right. The mode you refer to as "always active" is often traditionally (and somewhat confusingly) called "mono" mode. Actually, I initially (and mistakenly) thought that RS5K was working in "always active" (or "mono") mode, because it can give that impression with longer samples when "Obey notes off" is unchecked. As you quite correctly say though, in fact it's really working in a fixed "legato" mode.

ReaSynth also doesn't currently have a "mono" or "always active" mode (even though the synth itself becomes "mono" when the portamento knob is set to anything other than zero).

Anyway, thinking about it a little more, I can appreciate the value of the current "legato" portamento mode in certain situations so I suppose what I'm really asking for is the addition of a "mono" or "always active" portamento mode in both ReaSynth and RS5K as well.

BTW. there's a good description, with examples, of (monophonic) synth portamento here.

I think action list got an overhaul with this update. One of these was to show custom menus button?

I see there's space for one more button here. Why not put mouse modifiers here?
