Default Dark Theme

Hello Guys!!

I have a question.

Did anyone manage to leave the REAPER plugins on "Windows 10" looking like this, or close to it? See pic.

Thanks!

So currently we have to risk breaking Windows 10 (only for this to be potentially undone in a Win10 update anyway) to get these more easy on the eye dark backgrounds.

Yet using Hwhalen's modificaton of the Reaper 6 theme if you turn off the GUI in any Cockos plugin the naked sliders display in the more eye pleasing dark shade.
That being the case why don't the Cockos GUI's also take this tint instead of the light grey that reminds you of Win95?

That question has been asked over and over with no change or hope of changing that horrible windows 95 look. I'm convinced they like that for whatever reason and aren't going to stray. I have been using bitwig more and more and I must say a monolithic, cohesive design elements are quite refreshing.

Odd though isn't it. That shot is graphics within Reaper, so it should be easy relatively easy surely?
I mostly use 3rd party plugins within Reaper anyway. This looks like it should be a relatively simple fix (surely this falls short of asking for full theme capability in terms of complexity - which would be nice). It's not like we are expecting full scaling vector GUI throughout or anything like that (again that would be nice, but several orders of magnitude more complex to implement I imagine).

I am happily sticking with Reaper but Bitwig does look the part.

I'll still use Reaper but I am no longer monogamous for various reasons. A big thing is hardware synth integration is seamless in bitwig and also uses the Ableton link ecosystem which is fantastic for integrating iOS apps as well. Reaper falls apart when you try to make IT slave to another clock reliably.

Different developer focus is basically what it amounts to and that's totally fine because Reaper is cheap enough to justify using it with Bitwig. I could never understand why at the very least they couldn't and won't implement a simple dark version of the windows 95 looking gui elements. I'm not looking for vector compatibility or fancy graphic design just simply dark or light as it is now and that is for whatever reason not acceptable to team Reaper which is completely their prerogative.

I personally hate light or bright gui elements in general and am not normal I realize. When I use one of many awesome dark themes made for Reaper and then I have to open a horrid and bright windows 95 looking window it's visually a gut punch.

Mind sharing some tips on this? I've messed about with the high contrast settings but can't get anything looking as pleasing as yours. :/

I'm running Windows 10.

The color I'm using ss a solid background is 42-45-51

Choose a High Contrast Theme then
Select Custom Color Background then choose Custom Color
and set the custom color to 42-45-51.
In colors I have Transparency Effects OFF
as well as Choose your default app mode DARK.

There are 4 theme images that are also involved here
they provide the look of the controls.

That's it as far as I know.

Cheers!

See the link in my sig. I couldn't find how to alter a couple colours though for the life of me, which you will not see in Reaper but in some other apps there is a weird purple and green colour in certain menus etc.

There are some other ways it's not optimal, the way it makes the OS look etc, but my goal was just to make Reaper look good for people who fire Reaper up and use it all day. Basically the classic definition of the DAW, where the computer is dedicated completely to working in the audio app. Personally I just switch themes if I'm working in another app for an extended period of time, but for Reaper I've found this one does a good job.

As for concerns that this will potentially break the OS, the beauty of using a high contrast theme is specifically because it avoids having to install any other theme programs or changing the registry. Just download the theme file, and copy it to the theme folder. I give more detailed instructions in the link below.
