Default Yamaha P-95 + USB MIDI creating strange sustain effects

Hello,
I am using a Yamaha P-95 to record piano tracks and wanted to use a VST to get a fuller grand piano sound. I downloaded the PianoOne VST (which friends have also tested with no problems), but when I have the keyboard plugged into Repear with my (new) MIDI USB and running as a virtual instrument, every push of the sustain pedal creates nearly 30 seconds of continuous reverb. I tried changing all the settings in the VST panel and nothing changed. Other forums mentioned hard resets and unplugging and plugging back the pedal (tried that), making sure the switch on the bottom of the pedal is on the correct setting (it is). I closed out all other programs on my computer to make sure there wasn't a hardship on the CPU. Has anyone else had this problem?
