Default 3 plugins and the truth

Bored. Thinking out loud.

I’m going to give myself an exercise in order to actually learn the tools. I’m guilty of flipping compressors/EQ’s back and forth and I never actually learn any of them.

I’m going to mix a whole song using Just 3 plugins to get EQ, dynamics, saturation, and “flavor.”

Dynamics/EQ: Nova
Saturation: IVGI from Klanghelm
Space: Readelay

Or maybe:
Burnley - 1073 esque EQ and saturation lots of mojo but not a lot of precise control.
Klanghelm MJUC - 3 flavors of dynamics and saturation.
ReaVerb.

You? If you had to mix a whole song with 3 plugins, what would you choose?

Crave EQ.
Waves RenComp.
...and some delay plugin, perhaps the Valhalla.

These. Without knowing exactly why you picked them. Why ReaVerb in a compressor/EQ "shootout"?

You are putting a straight delay against a reverb. That makes no sense.

There are complex dense delays that can double for reverb such as NI Replika XT and Valhalla DSP Delay (depending on the mode). Readelay is much more the vanilla delay.

You could bring it down to no additional VSTs if you really want a learning exercise. Just bring in free impulse responses into Reaverb. Use Rea-comp and EQ.
Alternatively use a channel strip plugin and one reverb.

TD Nova and Nova GE can do all the compression and EQ though. I guess it depends on how many instances you want to bombard your CPU with.

Molot GE or Molotok can do clean and dirty compression, if you wanted more added character.

ReaEQ
ReaVerb (with some impulses)
ReaComp

But the truth is I will use a few more, though in general less than 10 overall.
