Default A cover of Lady Gaga's "SHALLOW"

A little sample of a recording in my humble bassment studio "HubWallStudios.com"
Last November.
A local Ottawa vocalist Maricor Wagner.
My friend of over 35 years on Guitar - Gabe Obert
One of the best drummers in Ottawa - Dave Hubenig
And of course - the balding senior citizen bassist is my self.

No midi, all live tracking

Enjoy

Having never heard the original and having a distinct distaste for pop music in general, I rather enjoyed this. When she lets it rip around 2:00, I even got some goosebumps.

Only audio problem I noticed is that the bass seems to eat all the headroom as soon as it comes in. If I had a suggestion it would be to work on the lighting for the sake of the video. It's a bit green and unflattering. Oh and it does end rather abruptly.

How many takes to get this one, out of curiosity?

Thank you so much for your comments @foxAsteria.

The video part was just from 4 cell phones stitched together using reapers video editing. Video in Reaper is a learning curve for us.
I agree it needs more massaging in the colour spectrum/fadein/fadeout/etc, but I am not a video producer and very much appreciate your comments on the video part.

As for the takes:

Dave, the drummer listened to the ghost and then came in and nailed the drums in 1 take. Albeit, the drums are primarily only on the end/extro.

Maricor did the vocal you hear here on her second take.

Bass, acoustic and electric guitars were 1 take as we all had listened to the ghost several times prior to the session, practiced on our own time, and wrote our own number charts before we laid the tracks.

Since this project I have learned as you stated that the bass is a bit heavy. Sounded good in the studio on Yamaha HS8's, but as you said was bass heavy so I listened to it in my car and I agree with you.

New projects in the works: an EP of originals with a phenom male vocalist/songwriter.

I agree the ending is abrupt, probably need a 2 second reverb tail, and have the last bass note stretched to match.

I avoid commercial radio like the plague and even wear headphones in stores. Ear worms tend to become endlessly repeating loops in my head and it drives me nuts.

I read SHALLOW, I read cover... thought it might been by Porcupine Tree.
Turns out a bit cheesy song form lady Gaga.
Drums a bit boomy... quite a lot actually. The kick I think, the bass guitar sound seems fine but heavily masked by that kick and drums averall.

Guitars are quite weak. (those after 2:50 min and on)
