Default Does a Steinberg CMC controller show up as midi device?

Hi, I’m aware of the other threads were people were trying to make the Steinberg CMC controllers behave just like in Cubase.

But now I want to try out something with a CMC-PD (the one with the 16 drumpads) and someone might be able to answer my question. (I don’t own one yet but I might buy it if this works)

When you connect a CMC controller does it pop up as a midi device? (I.e. midi keyboard)?
I don’t need the banks or lights or other functions, the only thing I want to do is trigger 16 Reaper shortcuts with the drumpads. When it would behave like a normal midi device each pad would be a ‘regular’ midi note right?

Would it be possible?

Thanks a lot!

I misread the title as 'Steinberg CNC'.

That'd be fun. A MIDI controlled CNC.
