I've been waiting fod my account activation so I can participate in this forum, and I can see there is a lot to explore, but for start let me ask this question, hopefuly someone can take some time to answer or direct me to the similar topic, if there was any.
So, I'm using (learning) Reaper for years now as an amateur musician, but mostly due to the luck off time still struggling with some basic things, so I hope this is not too much "beginers" question.
Is it possible to record over loop in Reaper like this
Please use https://stash.reaper.fm/ or imgur to upload your files. I see no notes on you screenshot. Are you sure you set time selection right? If you can, please record video showing your tries with this program http://cockos.com/licecap/

Hm, I've uploaded Untitled.jpg and at the second track you should see light blue section. That's the last couple of notes Reaper recorded.
First track is just some drums sample, and I choosed one part of it (right mouse button and select one part of that sample, maybe a fiew bars..)
I've uploaded pictures under Manage Attachments option, didn't know about other links. Btw, I've tried to open that other link / licecap but nothing happens..
the probem is it records only fiew last notes I've played, not entire playing..
I hit record button and start to play, and the loop is going on over and over (let's say 5 times) as I play.
But when I hit the stop button to listen what I've recorded I can hear it has recorded only what I've been playing during the last loop, not all five turns..

Ok, I see! Are you aware Reaper has take system? If no, go to youtube and watch some videos. The other option is to have layers instead takes. Go to Options->New recording that overlaps items->Create new media items in separate lanes (layers).
Your previous loops should be there. Try to do the next: right-click the item, Take->Explode all takes (in order).
ello-try changing the preference % for 'threshold of complete take'..or drag out the waveforms further along--or slip the items recording offsets--the recording passes 'should' be there,somewhere..?
it's sometimes quite handy to set recordings to render to desktop-for easier management//drag/drop inspection of what you just recorded..

Yess, now we're getting somewhere.
1. I'mannaged to record two separate wav tracks (lanes?) but when I want to listen to it they are playing at the same time one over another.
2. Did right click, but under the "Take " Explode all takes isn't higlighted so I can click on that..

Hi Bri1, thank you for participating in this probably beginners question..
Just saw under Loop recording options, and treshold is 90% there.
And the first box "In loop recording, discard incomplete first or last takes.." isn't checked. Should I do something about it or leave it that way?

^heh-btw -we all are beginners--anyways with reaper the choices you have!
try the choices--and if they do not 'work as you expected' make a report why something appears to be 'broken'..
i am very guilty of not reporting!! - seeing a lot to report actually...but report 0 so far.. try not to complain (working around any hurdles to go forwards.)
when something does work and work well-master it,own it,share your findings if you will.

Show what are you doing (make gif, video, anything). Use licecap (download it firstly) or any program you like and then upload somewhere and give us links.

Ok, txs, will try that.
For now I've managed to record multiple layers over one short loop.
I let the one short loop going on in one track (drums)
In second, armed track I start to record and play (bass guitar) over that loop
and while it records (in that bass track) the Reaper creates two, three or more new wav tracks within time (loop) section. Which is as it should be I guess.
It's just when I want to listen how it came out I can hear either all those wav layers at once (which is a mess) either one at the time
What I want to achieve is to hear them continuously as I've played them.

drag either side of waveform out-- basically,it can just all be 1 pass--or you can comp passes as 1= choices before+post render.
the more we all try-the more we all learn- even not trying is learning..heh

Sure, it came to my mind to do that, but in YT video I've posted as an example where some guy sings over loop it all seems to work without draging recorded layers out (or I didn't get it right)
I thought I can just hear all that I've been recording as one continuous take..
btw I made gif how I did it, but stach/reaper said This file is either far too big or much too small
They both work.
Well, as I said before, you should watch video how take system works in Reaper. If you use layers, you may want to solo/mute items.
You can add mute buttons by Preferences->Appearance->Media and check Muted, Not muted Media item buttons.
Soloing is possible via shortcuts, toolbar buttons or mouse modifiers. To find solo actions go to Actions and type in "solo item" into Filter box.
But are you suggesting that I can't listen all the layers as one take in continuity?
You can't listen them continually.
If you want to do so, you can use smart markers.
Here is the video how to use them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vei6xE5Att8
But firstly you should record items as takes (both (default) and (tape mode) are good, not (layers)).
You'll need to create a marker a little bit before loop end, then change name to "!40125" without "". ! enables action markers and 40125 is the ID of action "Take: Switch items to next take". You may want to do other action. Just choose the action, right-click and "Copy selected action command ID" and paste to marker's name with ! before ID.
The result will look like this:
