Default After exit Reaper process keep running in background.

Hi, as I said in the title when I close Reaper with a large project opened (I mean many istances of kontakt with 10-15 Gb of RAM filled) the UI close without errors but the process remain in background for 5 min more or less, after this time it close by itself regularly.

Obviously it keep the ram filled until it close.

I noticed the problem recently even if I'm doing big projects like this for quite some time. The difference in that one is that I begin to use one istance of kontakt per instrument (it works well than many instruments per instance).

It's like Repaer need so many time to close everithing.

Am I doing something wrong?

My specs:
CPU: I7 3770K @ 4.4 GHz
RAM: 32 Gb
Audio: Steinberg UR22
DAW: Reaper 64Bit v5.12
OS: Windows 8.1 64Bit

Thank you.

PS I'm not english so please be patient with any language mistake.

ED is the man on Kontakt, but from what I can recall, using multiple instruments in one instance DOES take a while to free up ram after closing a project, so it could well just be that.

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, usually it takes a while but I didn't know it takes so much.

I don't know if it's a bug or it is normal, I'll do some more testing and I'll let you know if I understand something.
In the meantime any help or suggestion is welcome.

Daniele
I remember from the very distant past something about the order that you close other things you are using with reaper and close reaper last. Also anything that is going into your soundcard to get to Reaper. Turn off your soundcard before reaper too if your not using it for anything else.

Sounds daft but it was a while ago and with win xp but who knows.
Good luck

Thank you for your answer. I'll try it but generally I close everything before Reaper.

I noticed that if I load the project, I play it and then I close Reaper everything works fine, the occupied memory goes down.

If I work on it for sometime (some hour or less) and then I close it the RAM remains full and the process remains in background.

Well I don't know why it behave this way!

Hi,
I had this issue long ago with Reaper. But it ended up being only when I used an earlier version of bfd. Later versions fixed it. I think its plug in related in my case..I don't see that issue here, but I don't use kontact, but I do use relatively ..for my machine...big projects.

Hth

Thank you. Well I think too it is Kontakt related but I don't know if it's a Kontakt bug or maybe an option in Reaper.

I just tried to open the project, play it, open casual kontakt istances, I'm doing that for a while but everything works when I close Reaper.

So I have to understand what happens when I work for a long time. I do the same actions, so I can't reproduce the error for now.

I'll do some more test to try to identify the issue.

Anyway keep up with your suggestions, it's useful.

Default Same problem 2021, no plugins open

I've discovered it after trying to install a plugin update in Waves Central. There is a Reaper.exe permanently running in the background. The process cannot be ended.

Surely I'm not supposed to unplug my RME interface every time I close Reaper..?

Any update on this issue?
Reaper 6.29
Win 10
RME Babyface
Waves Central latest version

I had forgotten this thread. There is another current thread on this same subject that I have posted to, as I am STILL getting this "Reaper running in the background" error occasionally.
It does seem to come & Bgo in my case & I have yet to figure out what is causing it to suddenly reappear..

If it's only Waves Central that has a problem it's not a big deal. Restarting the PC worked for me. Strange how the memory process is completely un-killable though...

It is now happening to me, except I can kill the process.

Windows 11 Pro as of today the latest public build: 22621.ni_release.220506-1250

Reaper v6.79

This seems to be intermittent, and I don't know what is provoking it.
