Default Drag and drop items into VSTi ?

Hi,

I can drag and drop items from the media browser into a VSTi (such as Kontakt, for example) but I cannot seem to drop a timeline item.

Is it possible in Reaper (I can do this in Cubase).

Cheers
Thal

What OS are you using ? Windows or OSX ?
Cause if you are using OSX, it's not possible.
If you are using Windows, i believe it should be possible.

As long as I know its not possible. For example you can't drag and drop audio items from the arrange view into the RSM5000. But mostly its possible to use an action or custom action to solve problems.

But it would be nice to have this option. Maybe per key modifier. It also would be great to have the ability to drag and drop fxp or fxp from media explorer into VSTi.

There's a key modifier to render the selected item to a new file while dragging, which allows to drop the content into plugins that support it. The downside is that always creates a new file on disk.

Thanks folks, good to know.

I'm on Windows, by the way.

Yeah - would be a nice feature to have methinks.

YOu should be able to drag and drop into a vst from the media explorer or project bay. You can use an action shortcut for "reveal item in media explorer" to get to the file quick. THere is no action similar to that for the project bay though.

in arrange view by holding ctrl + alt and dragging an item, you can drop it into a vsti. but it mysteriously stopped working for me a second ago and im here looking for why.

Ctrl+Alt and click the media item's upper half as a "grab point" to drag into your VSTi. I believe the bolded part was introduced in one of the last few updates as a default modifier. This tripped me up, too.

Hope that works for you.
