Default Automatic volume level adjuster

Is there any trick, or even some vst-plugin, which automatically lowers (source's) volume-level, while it exeeds for example -6db?

I would like to treat our bass tracks like this, before compressing, because there is quite a waving in volume levels, and heavy compressor "eats" sound. Limiter is even worse.

Hope you understand my question...

You could use JS effect volume_pan and Parameter Modulation to control your signal. Insert the aforementioned effect in your bass track and click on I/O button, enable this envelope and click on Mod button too:

This will bring this window up, set it like this and control your threshold with this slider:

There are some other parameters you'd like to change for more control. You can find more information about this feature in Reaper's User Guide.

NOTE: with this your bass track will control its own signal if it goes over a determined threshold.

Try GClip, from the GVST bundle. I find that it's pretty invisible-sounding unless you really crank it.

Edit: I probaply have this GClip vst also...I think I have all Gvst's, so I'll try it also. Thanks.
