Default I faceplanted in the synthesizer

Hi,

I remember a small discussion here about new gear being an inspiration. So I bought a 9v battery for my bass - here's a tune:

http://soundcloud.com/zeekat/ephemeral-square

After ingesting massive amounts of Ozric Tentacles I've decided to dick around with the Synth1, which is a synth I like and can actually understand. Added a bit of guitars and crappy bass, SSD essentials as drums and voila. It doesn't sound like Ozrics at all

I also discovered that while used carefully Vegas isn't strangling my computer alive, so stitched some HD clips together for easier audio-visual consumption. Thanks for whoever here recommended it, really nice program.

Holy shit, really? I thought it sounds kinda thin - tried to make it louder by limiting the shit out of it indeed but it started making that odd pumping effect so left it quiet.

Other than than, I tried to do the same thing as everyone else - checked if I hear all the instruments properly and thought it's ok enough. Plus applied liberal amounts of reverb, ping pong delays and chorus (on synths) of course. Usually I try to layer the pads but here are two patches used total, playing alternatively, felt like more would muddle things up.

EDIT: I should add that yep, there's compression and limiting off Kjaerhus freebies, but really not much, I don't grasp compression very well.

Not a huge fan of synths myself, but you've done an awesome job on this.

Default Tripped across this

Definitely in the clouds. The artist is the biggest and toughest critic with the biggest ruler on the sorest knuckles. You did a fabulous job and the consistent change up with the cloud video kept the interest alive without detracting form the music.

Isn't that a success then?

Very enjoyable track. Tons of variety and no filler. The only negative thing I thought was that the really high pitched synth parts around the mid section drowned out the drums a little. It could be the less than stellar speakers I'm listening on though.

Great track overall.

Office lol is a treacherous beast!

Thanks guys, didn't expect this thread to be bumped out of oblivion. Never noticed the synth overpowering drums, maybe it's my monitoring that's rubbish . Actually I'm always afraid the drums are too loud, I like pronounced drums bit too much probably.

Nice. I wanted the guitar a bit louder in parts. THe sounds are all very tasteful - I sort of want something to come in a wreck it.

Like it. Lots of movement, shifting while maintaining focus. Instruments and lines go in and out of attention, but have been woven well into a complex but not too busy carpet of variations on a theme. I loved the reprise-coda at 3.40 that gave a somewhat syncopated and sing-songy ending.
