That's the whole point.

But if you can't?

How setting the output stage of analog gear on a fireface 800?

You can't because there's no output or trim on preamps or even VU meter. (Digicheck permits it bu if you set your preamp at 0VU you'll be at -15 or -9 dbfs RMS in your DAW depending on the alignement you choose)

So, if you want to be sure to don't overload the analog part of your signal chain, you have to rely on your digital level

And, Like I said Before

0VU = 1.23V = +4dbu (the optimal sweet spot of analog gear) = -18dbfs RMS (standard but can vary from Gear to gear)
