How to Update Reaper w/o Losing Settings and Templates
When I update Reaper, I seem to lose my Reaper settings and templates unless I choose “Keep Both” (e.g., the current version and the to be installed version).
Is there another way to update without losing my settings and templates?

Can't say for templates but the settings remain.
I always replace the old with the update and all keeps fine.
To be on the safe side, is it possible to save a template into a folder and import back from there ?

I use two methods. First, from Preferences, I export everything. Two, I copy the entire Reaper folder of my templates to an external hard drive. Never had any issues.

It’s only happened a couple of times, so I may have done something different those two times I updated. But if I did, I didn’t notice what it was.
I need to make sure I have everything backed up just in case going forward (which I do on my old Windows computer, but am still working on doing (I know, my fault) on my Mac).

You can just put an identical copy of your entire resource folder wherever you need.

Hmm. I never see this. Whenever I update Reaper I drag Reaper.app from the DMG to my /Applications folder and say "replace" and never have any issues with my settings or anything going away. Do you have Reaper set up in any special way - such as a portable install? Your settings and templates are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/REAPER . This remains consistent for me from one version to the next so I'm confused as to why yours is being reset.

No special set up, and not sure what I did. But I do appreciate your help.

Let us know if it happens again. If you are installing Reaper in the same location as before and replacing the old version with the newer version, it should never touch your settings and I haven’t had that issue.

This is what I was thinking, and how it usually works, so it's why I am now wondering if I may have accidentally dome something else.
But I'll be extra cognizant of what I am doing when I update, and if it happens again I'll let you know with more detail.
