Visual indication of track MIDI recording mode missing
It's possible to set various midi recording modes on a per track basis, but no way to actually see the current track mode (overdub/replace) other than going to second level of a drop-down menu.
Recording in the wrong mode pretty much requires a retake, so I find this quite a serious issue.

Agreed, for the v5 Default theme.
Hovering over the Input Device does show the mode in a pop-up. Or a different them may be better.

Afraid the solution needs deeper tinkering than just a longer field in the theme- normally DAWs display this info as an icon, some even in the transport bar. In the current Reaper implementation, only the words in parenthesis are relevant to recording mode, everything else before that is input. It probably should be like the envelope mode button.

As in the screenshots, Reaper enables different modes on each track so a single icon or in the transport bar would not be sufficient. So it needs to be track-based. As you have said, in Reaper it is combined with the device name and MIDI input channel.
A track-based button would do it and avoid the problems with having to have a long field for the device details.

I think it may be a good idea to just do it on the record button icon, to have a different record icon for each mode. That would need some back end coding from the devs though, more preferences.
I'd say the same for the automation modes, same issue almost, not that great UI feedback of the modes in some cases, in the mixer anyway.

It certainly needs to be visible on track control panel, but wouldn't be too hard to have small coloured "leds" on the transport bar as well to show which modes are enabled on armed tracks.

Tbh I'd like to see automation modes visible/adjustable also on the actual envelope lanes instead of just the track itself.

Bump, this still needs attention.
It's impossible to see recording mode in REAPER 5.11.

"still" ? It's been just two weeks, including a holiday period.
Reaper development does not work like that. Indeed, some requests do get implemented in a few days, others can take months or even years.
Please, please have some patience.
It is perfectly possible to see the Recording Mode (in the pop-up), even though it is not permanently visible.

Just yesterday i made this 3 scripts for the midi editor. It's a workaround, i know, but in the meantime... let me know, and i upload them to the stash. Don't do it yet because i want to polish some things. I think they must work in a toolbar in the main section too.

I'm just bumping this, there's no way to even know these FRs are read by devs, no need to get defensive.
It's not possible to see the recording mode from the TCP without user action, like you can see automation modes, or IN/OUT recording mode.
Pasajeromoronmoreno, this functionality is a per-track setting, and can have different states across tracks- the only way to display these would be TCP/MCP level, which are not customisable with scripts afaik.

Yeah, you are right. The scripts are only good for using inside the midi editor, that was the planned scenario, and only as a workaround, my intention never was to diminish the request, clearly it's something missing.

I've made toolbar buttons, but it would be nice to have something on the track that can indicate it as well as an action that can be assigned to a button to show the current state from within the midi editor. Also, the midi editor needs a record button or some kind of Recording indication/switch when one is overdub MIDI Recording in a fullscreen MIDI Editor window.

This is equal to punch mode indicators on the record button, except MIDI recording modes have more drastic differences and consequences. This really should be addressed promptly.

Casual, but nevertheless optimistic little bump. Lets do this! All other daws have this, just like REAPER has indicator for audio recording modes.
Why does it have an indicator to show audio recording mode? Because seeing your recording mode is mighty practical!

Big +1 from me too.
It wouldn't be so bad if toolbar buttons for setting the recording mode showed the active status (as most other buttons like this do) but as it stands I can't see any way to show this information on screen or on a controller LED via MIDI feedback.
