Default Freeze losing presets

I've noticed with different plugins on random occasions when I do a freeze of the track it will freeze either the wrong preset of the vsti resulting in a completely wrong sound or on unfreeze it will then select the wrong preset and restore to the completely wrong sound.

Any ideas what causes this? It's really a pain to have to keep track of which preset was the one and try to track it down and choose it again. It's not specific to any particular manufacturer either which is interesting.

If you save the working patch as a Reaper preset it can still lose the sound on UNFREEZE. Reselecting either Reaper preset or the VSTi preset resets it. Weird. How are presets being lost and confused ?

Does freezing the track behave differently than freezing up until last selected FX?

I'll have to try that but what will that tell us?

The robot has some ideas for me

If the issue occurs with multiple plugins from different companies, it is likely a problem with how Reaper is handling the freezing and unfreezing process.

Here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check the buffer size settings in Reaper's audio preferences. A low buffer size can cause issues with freezing and unfreezing tracks. Try increasing the buffer size and see if the issue persists.

Try resetting Reaper's preferences to their default settings. This can help to clear any corrupted or conflicting settings that may be causing the issue. To reset the preferences, go to Options > Preferences > General > Reset All Preferences to Default.

Try using a different audio driver. Sometimes issues can arise with specific audio drivers that can cause problems with freezing and unfreezing tracks.

If you have any plugins or effects running on the master bus, try disabling them before freezing the track. Sometimes master bus effects can cause issues with freezing and unfreezing tracks.

If the issue persists after trying these troubleshooting steps, it may be worth reaching out to the Reaper support team or community forums for further assistance.

Great suggestions but how would the master bus affect freezing of tracks
If you have plugins or effects running on the master bus, they can affect the audio processing of all tracks in your project. This can potentially cause issues with freezing and unfreezing tracks, particularly if the master bus effects are resource-intensive or are causing audio glitches.

When you freeze a track in Reaper, it renders the track's audio output as a new file, which is then used in place of the original track when you play back the project. If there are any issues with the master bus effects or processing, this can potentially cause problems with the rendering of the frozen track.

By disabling the master bus effects before freezing the track, you can help to ensure that the rendering process is not affected by any issues with the master bus. Once the track has been frozen, you can re-enable the master bus effects without affecting the frozen track.

I can't see how the master bus fx have any relation to track level freezing. You are rendering the track prior to the master bus. The track, frozen or otherwise, will only be passed through the mastering fx on playback or freezing/ rendering of the master ouput.

Resetting Reaper Audio / Buffering to defaults makes no difference and removing all master fx didn't matter either. It's most often on unfreeze that the wrong preset gets selected.

Not sure if it makes a difference but are these presets from within the plugin gui or presets in the Reaper format?
