Default Portamento for a monophonic audio signal?

Portamento is a common feature in many synths - for example, if you play a c-note, and after it a g-note, with portamento the tone "glides" as a continuous signal from c to g.

but: is there any HW device capable of taking a monophonic audio as input, and then performing portamento for it (preferably allowing adjustment of the parameters such as timing etc)?

That's what I was going to suggest. I have a Digitech RP7 that can do pedal pitch so well, you can do simulated slide guitar that is believable with it.

It also has a patch that lets direct signal through plus pedal pitch controled signal to sound like a steel guitar bending only one of two notes.

Ooh, looking bonkers in the opposite corner:

Short of looking into the future, a pedal has to be the way? If you want the guitar sound.

Otherwise, you're talking about a "guitar synth" with actual portamento I suppose.
