Is it possible to change the default font in Reaper? I didn't know that.
Do me a favor, go into the tweaks panel and change Walter Font 16 to something else (Helvetica 11, or Helvetica 10 for instance) to see if it make a difference? Thanks!

It's bigger now and out of its margin:

Original was Calibri.

I really like the Calibri one. But I think it can be lower than 8 size..
Wouldn't be the case of decreasing the meter a bit?

It's a generally likeable theme, but could it be better?

1. As TCP zooms vertically, some buttons go down; record, input, monitoring, phase icon etc. It would be nice if they stood still. This creates a really useless and weird look.
2. It would be better if the fx's were on the left in TCP, maybe I couldn't.
3. Dual pan will look more eventful if there are two round pan knobs rather than double lines.
4. It would be nice if it was possible to remove the wide knob on the side of the pan?
5. On MCP, it would be much easier if the mute solo, record, monitoring quartet appeared as 4 boxes at the bottom instead of on the sides.
6. In MCP, it would be better if the track name was at the bottom, not above, and if the bottom input was in a more suitable place.

Still, the color match looks nice.

I've struggled with this, too. It was part of the original theme and I left it in place. IIWII.

You can do this -- in fact it's the default. Check the Theme Adjuster for the switch.

No can do -- there are no conditional graphics in WALTER. (Actually that's not entirely true in certain specific circumstances, but I'm still going with "no can do")

Is it causing an actual problem for you? Or is it just an aesthetic thing? In the balance, I am happy to have it there.

Easier for you might not be easier for someone else. This is one of those "the theme looks like this" things, and I don't anticipate changing it.

There are MCP layouts (called "label bottom") which do this, in fact, it's not the default for legacy reasons.

I'm glad you're enjoying the theme, despite some imperfections!

Would it be possible when showing inserts and sends to have the row of inserts on the left and the row of sends on the right similar to Pro Tools?

I don't think I have any control over this. Are you familiar with another theme which does it this way?

@sockmonkey

I noticed I find the 'loop notch' (whatever it's called) kinda hard to spot on unselected items (ok when items selected).

(In the licecap I put focus on the bottom notch because that's were I usually look at to find it, but at the top it doesn't seem to be visible at all when the item is unselected.)

For comparison, default 6 theme (item unselected):

Could this be improved perhaps?

That notch is a 100% transparent region, so you're seeing the track background. Looks like the track background is so similar to the default item background color that it just kind of disappears. At least that's what seems to be happening -- there's no visual element and no dedicated tweak color for this (and the colors match the backgrounds in the two examples).

On your personal copy, you can adjust the unselected media item or track background colors (in Tweaks) to taste to solve this. But it raises a good point, and I'll play around with the default unselected media item background color for the next version.

I always use SWS auto-coloring, so this never popped out at me, thanks for bringing it up. Your example also points out an "off-by-one" pixel error in the unselected item lower border where the border is cut off by that arrow in the Peace version. I'll also take a look at that as soon as I have a moment.

Thanks for having a look. Yeah, as you figured, I mainly use default colors with your theme.

Try this one (also on ReaPack as a prerelease).

Hey, just a nitpick (or whatever).
I'm on the ReaPack beta channel of this theme and have seen you recently made some updates.
Thanks for this.
If you'd put in the ReaPack header what actually changed I'd read it with interest.
Currently I only see 'No changelog'.

But if you hate writing changelogs or I'm the only one who cares (who knows...) that's fine also.

Yeah sorry, I write changelogs on the Git repos commits and releases. I can try to improve my ReaPack hygiene, though, that would annoy me, too.

Code:
v1.7.4-beta.4
fix MCP layout problems (volume/meter/trackid)

v1.7.4-beta.3
fix dual pan positioning in MCP label bottom layouts

v1.7.4-beta.2
fix media item unselected color and upper/lower borders

v1.7.4-beta.1
add and improve graphics for 'norec' (audio monitor only) on MCP/TCP

Best thing about this is the large track names. I wish all themes would do that.

Just spent the last 2 days working out 3 new tunes and have to say Peace is just a joy to work with. Love the work you've continued to put into this and, as someone who likes to mix in the MCP, the small (label bottom) layout is absolutely great as the track count grows.

Hope it carries on into Reaper 7 and beyond!

v1.7.4-beta.5 is available on Github and ReaPack.

Code:
  * swap position of rec monitor mode and rec input mode in MCP
  * add v7 fixed lane graphics
  * minor color tweaks

This looks great but I have a few questions, please note I'm a reaper newbie so thanks for your patience

On my 4K monitor, on windows with display scaling set to 150%, the default reaper theme looks sharp but this one looks a bit soft, the text is clear but some icons like mute / solo and the main toolbar icons look soft, is that to be expected?

Also, how do I make the FX inserts visible in the TCP?

Thanks!

Your eyes are not deceiving you, this theme does not have HiDPI graphics. I don't have the original gfx files (and no idea whether they were ever hi-res), nor the expertise required to make good quality upscales of the existing files (particularly the graphics with text present a problem for the AI solutions I have tried).

If anyone reading this is good at that sort of thing, your assistance would be gratefully accepted, as I would also like to have a Retina-friendly version of the theme...

Anyway, that's the current state of the project.

No worries, thanks for clearing that up.
And would you mind explaining how I can activated the TCP fx slots?

RIght-click on some empty TCP space, you'll see the option to show FX inserts.

v1.7.4-beta.6 is out on Github and ReaPack. It adds a Theme Adjuster option to align TCP controls if you want the left side of your TCP to line up (right side was already aligned):

Cool - Makes things look much cleaner. Never really noticed before but now that you've introduced it I love it. I use folders as busses so it does make things look nice!

The marker number in the MIDI Editor is dark and set against a dark background. We can't see it because there is no contrast.

Thanks, I'll check it!

EDIT: unfortunately, the marker text color is the same as the timeline text color in the MIDI editor. I could change the ruler background color, but then the MIDI editor looks quite different:

The marker color is applied to both MIDI editor and arrangement, so that would be the only way to solve it. But maybe the devs would consider adding a new color for MIDI editor marker text to help this situation. And/or a new color for the CC lane background, which would also help alleviate the conflict.

I like it even better that way! If no on opposes the MIDI ruler color change, I'd like it to see for the next theme version.

Strange, the ME ruler is light gray with dark measure numbers instead of dark gray with black measure numbers like the screen capture you showed.
I think it looks better in dark grey.

EDIT: IN fact, the quick solution is to change the marker color background.
Because With the modification you made to the ME ruler, the number is still indistinguishable inside its circle.
Maybe because I'm on Linux, I don't get the white number font but a white one.

I didn't make any changes to the public release yet.

EDIT: I made two color proposals above, one with a dark ruler and a white number, one with a middle-dark ruler and a white number. Which one do you like the best?

The problem with changing the marker color is that the same color is used for both the arrangement and the MIDI Editor, so the colors need to be similar, or at least similar enough, so that the text will be visible in both. Marker text is the same as the ruler text in the MIDI editor, so that means that the ruler text color needs to be the same or similar to the marker text color in the arrangement, etc. Anyway, there are a bunch of interrelationships which make this a little challenging.

I've been living with the middle-dark ruler for the last week, and I think it looks and feels pretty nice. The dark one is too dark for my taste.

Default Update for Reaper 7

Now that Reaper 7 is out, I’m wondering if there are any plans on updating this beautiful theme?

I've been updating it all along, it supports v7 features already.

Currently outstanding is a resolution to the MIDI Editor marker color problem, but that's not specific to v7.

Default What are these dots?

I love this theme, but I look at these two little dots at the edge of the play rate every day. What's up with these?
