Default Subproject Midi?

I use a lot of subprojects for backing tracks/click tracks but also use midi automation as well.
I've been setting up my subprojects to have more than 2 outputs so that I can bring them into the main project on different busses (to send to various hardware outputs for live use).
I've had to put all of my midi automation on the main project (not a sub project) in order to get it to work, but I'd like to be able to move the midi into the subproject but can't seem to figure out how to get the subproject to bring the midi to the main project when it's rendered to the prox file.
I've tried giving the midi track it's own parent channel but when it renders that to the main project, it appears to come thru as audio, not midi.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
I hate having to have all of the midi in the main project and everything else in the subprojects.

Mmhh ... I think what you ask for is not possible.

The concept of subprojects is "to sum up everything
of a subproject into one (or more) audio-wave(s)".
They'll never put out any midi data.
