I don’t think so. Besides the 2 buttons are only defined in MCUSend.axt, so are still available in other Pages.

In Klinke it's like that of the actual selected track.
Track1-----Track1-----Track1-----Track1-----Track1------etc....

Ok, cool, what does it look like if there is only one plugin ?
Are the rest of the tracks blank ?

So in my C4.axt I just swapped TrackOnSelection MapFX to Widgets for TrackOnFocusedFX MapSingleFXToWidgetsForTrack and now only the focussed (active window) FX maps to the surface.
C4 looks like this:
Code:
TrackOnFocusedFX MapSingleFXToWidgetsForTrack
SlotUp Reaper _S&M_WNONLY1
SlotDown Reaper _S&M_WNONLY2
TrackL Reaper _6e6967db562a45f3b499d3b9daaefd60
TrackR Reaper _172419af88f947d1b7205e75478aa4b7
SlotUp/Down is SWS/S&M: Float previous/next FX (and close others) for selected tracks
TrackL/R is a custom action comprising:
SWS/S&M: Close all floating FX windows + Track: Go to next track
This closes the floating fx windows opened by SlotUp/SlotDown, when you use the C4 TrackL/R buttons to move to a new track. Stops too many FX windows staying open and making a mess.
Big advantage of TrackOnFocusedFX MapSingleFXToWidgetsForTrack is no more collisions on the surface, as only one FX is mapped at a time and navigation is by slot, which is how most people conceptualise the FX chain. Also, on a C4, all but the biggest (most parameters) plugins can be mapped in full.
There does seem to be a bug in the latest build that causes the master fader to disappear from the surface- be good if you could try it out and see if you get the same results- might just be me
|
Thanks, i'll try this out tomorrow when i have some time.

You can use keyboard shortcuts or setup 2 other buttons in the SENDS page to scroll sends up/down. For instance, i use the metronome/click button on my surface (plus one other, i forget) that will change send selection on tracks with more than 1 send. i use buttons that I wouldn't miss when in Sends mode (metronome, for instance). It's actually really easy and a good workflow. .
But, I also like the way it works having all sends on a selected track...ala Klinke.

Hey Geoff, just to touch on the Klinke implementation a little more, as I think it is pretty useful way to setup.
Expanding on what Seby mentioned, the additional sends (if you have more than 8) can be viewed by banking "pages" (separate from CSI pages) via mute or solo buttons (I forget which). The mute/solo are not used as mute/solo in this mode, and if there are any additional "pages" then a corresponding light would indicate so. For example, if you have 10 sends on a track, 1-8 will show on tracks 1-8, and the Mute on track 1 would be lit indicating another page of sends, pressing it will display 9-10 on tracks 1 and 2. I forget how to go back to page 1, but you get the idea.
This methodology was used for plugin control also, where mute buttons would select a plugin and the solo buttons would select the pages of parameters for that plugin.

Yeah, this puts us back into that matrix navigation discussion we had a while back.
Have to ponder this for a bit...

Oh yes, I think that was centered around plugin control. I don't recommend that, I think what we have now is great and flexible enough. But would it be as complicated for sends?
I'm ok either way honestly. I have gotten used to the way it is now and don't remember how it was the other way

Yeah, it's a balancing act, trying to improve midi CSI whilst developing OSC CSI.
That said, I'll probably post one more build with fixes for Master track disappear problem, and hopefully Win reset behaviour, but then must really move over to OSC focus for a while.

Everyone - it was a joke... I thought the emoticons were enough to make that clear, but maybe not???
I'm an X32 user, and Geoff has said the best hope of getting a good working setup using this device is via OSC, so I'm eagerly awaiting something to test (before I get too busy again with work to do so!!).
But of course I know that he is also still in the phase of brainstorming ideas for the scope of the project, so I don't really want to stop that ;-)

That would be great Geoff
One side effect of the Master fader problem is that it seems to make "synch pages" out of sync by one, so what is on fader 25 say on the Channel Page will be on fader 26 on the Sends Page (or vice versa)
Regarding the Win problem, what seems to happen is that when a change has been made to the prefs, the faders all move to the bottom (as happens on Mac) but then the settings don't reload and communication between the surfaces an Reaper is lost. Restarting Reaper (usually) reconnects things.
Could you restate the syntax for the hold function, I'm a bit vague about it and haven't managed to get it to work.

Sure, it's very simple.
For example, you now have:
Play PressFB 90 5e 7f 90 5e 00
in MCU.rst
You could have:
Play PressFB t/play
in SomeOSCDevice.ost
Pressing play on either device (Midi or OSC), or clicking the mouse on the Play Button, starts Reaper playing.
There will also be OSCSurface entries in the CSI.ini file, much like the MidiSurface entries there now, to indicate things like I/O config, channel count, etc.
In other words only CSI.ini/.ost files are involved, all of the definitions in .rst/.axt/.fxt remain the same, at least that's the plan

No problem, questions are good
An .fxt file maps plugin parameters to control surface widgets (knobs, buttons, displays etc)
So each plugin needs one (or more- mono, stereo etc) .fxt file.
If you look in the Console One folder in the fxt folder, you can see some examples of plugins mapped to a Console One surface.
Since Geoff introduced the MapFocussedFX command, I’ve been busy mapping plugins to my C4 surface

ICON Qcon Pro plus extender

Hi Poetnprophet,
I also have a Qcon (Pro), like you, and I just laid my hands on an Qcon EX extender.
EDIT: after reading more of this thread I understand that you actually have a QCon Pro X, not the older QCon Pro that I have. I guess they will be largely compatible?
My plan is to use them both in CSI, and add a BCR2000 for controlling some of the most frequently used plugins (EQ, Compressor, etc) and/or sends on the currently selected track.
I'll focus on the Qcons first and worry about the BCR2000 later.
Did you have to do anything special to get the Qcon plus extender working, or did you just use the MCU configuration files? Would you mind sharing your .rst, .axt and .fxt files so that I have a starting point? What DAW mode did you select on your QCon?
And many thanks to all here (and Geoff in particular) for all the great work and all the information in this thread!
Cheers,
Paul

I got the QCon Pro and the extender running without much trouble. I used the Logic Pro mode on the QCon, and the MCU config files that came with CSI.
The strange thing is that on my main studio machine (the one that I want to use with the control surfaces) Reaper does not see CSI in the list of possible control surfaces. I tried on my laptop, and there it works fine. Both machines are installed in exactly the same way as far as Reaper is concerned, but the main machine runs Windows 8.1 and the laptop runs Windows 10. I installed the 2017 C++ runtime on the Win 8.1 machine because I read that somewhere in this thread, but it did not help. I would really love to get it working on my main machine.
Some other questions and observations:
- How is the assignment of the faders determined? Is the order of the surfaces in the page deciding if faders 1-8 are on the extender or the main unit?
- I had to change MCUXTDisplayUpper (and ..Lower) to MCUDisplay... in the MCUXT.rst to get the display working on the extender. (I created QConPro.rst and QConEX.rst files to keep the MCU ones untouched).
- I really love that the faders on the surface follow the visibility of the faders on the MCP. So opening and collapsing a folder track is reflected on the surface. Is there a way to open / collapse a selected (folder) track with buttons on the surface instead of using the mouse?
- The faders behave a little odd: for most of the range they work fine, but when I pull them to the max position using the mouse, the corresponding fader on the surface jumps to the zero position. Not really a problem, but it is weird. Could this be related to 7-bit or 14-bit resolution?
- The track VU meters next to the faders do not work. They used to work with the Klinke MCU extension, so I would expect them to be compatible with the MCU. Are they supposed to be working with the MCU using CSI?
It was a very pleasant surprise that it was so easy to get something working.
Thanks Geoff and all contributors for this great piece of work. Even as a pre-alpha version it is already very useful!

Hey Paul, welcome to the ProX club! (I just made that up haha)
I basically just used the MCU rst and axt files to start. I didn't have to modify anything to get basic functions. I am not in the studio today but I'll try to get those files later and post the contents.
Wait, do you have the Qcon Pro, or ProX? They are a little different, different firmware and perhaps different midi messages.
I can't recall how the faders are set exactly, sorry. It's been a while. Yes you can just use the MCU instead of the extender rst, I had the same issue at some point, I don't recall what it was. You can also copy/paste the channel section of the MCU rst/axt in place of what's in the EXT files....that may help.
Yes you can setup your buttons any way you like through the axt file. Just pick a button and change the action to what you want. That's advanced stuff though. There are some other functions, kind of like the hidden menu at In/out Burger! Like touchSelect, holdbutton, mapfocusedFx. those are buried in this thread somewheres...
haven't had that fader issue, but you may want to check in your preferences what your fader settings are. I think the Qcon maxes at +10, so you'd want to make sure it's set that way in Reaper also so that the onscreen mixer resolution is the same as the surface.
Sorry I can't help more, I need to update my files also but haven't had the time. When I have a chance I will post what I have so far for the ProX.
The BCR is going to be a whole other beast, you'll have to map every single knob and button directly and correctly for every parameter you want for every plugin. Fun stuff.

Hi Poetnprophet,
Thanks for replying! I made quite some progress, described in the post just before yours. It is starting to work quite well, the last major thing that does not work yet are the VU meters. And the jog wheel, but I understand that that is not implemented yet so I'll just be patient.
Do you have any suggestions about getting CSI visible in Reaper on my Win 8.1 machine?
Indeed, I have the older QCon Pro, not the X. It seems to be quite compatible with the MCU.
I am going to look through the Reaper actions list to find the functions I want to map to buttons on my QCon, the most important ones being the expand/collapse folder actions.
If you ever find the time to share your files I'd be very grateful, I am sure I'll get some good suggestions from them.
I still don't understand most of the special lines in the .rst and .axt file, but I will read through the thread and see if I can find more information about them.
I am looking forward to figuring out the BCR mapping, I think I understand the concept of the .fxt file, so it will just take some work to do it. I love the power and flexibility of this setup!

Reaper action 41665 toggles the visibility of the children of the selected track(s) in the MCP.
I mapped that to a button on the QCon, so now I can collapse/expand folder tracks at will. Very nice, possibly even better than the folder mode of Klinke MCU...
