Reaper won't auto punch time selection

Suddenly reaper won't auto puc\nch time selection. After the 5.91 update. I have it selected in options (time selction auto punch) but it just starts recording immediately upon hitting control R

I see no change in time selection auto punch behavior here with 5.91. Have you checked if you have some other change there, like e.g. time selection and loop points not linked together anymore in Options?

I will check that. I thought perhaps it was a setting

That is exactly what the problem was. I don't remember deselecting that but....
