Default Default v5 Dark Theme

Hi, this is my dark version of the v5 default theme, as we all know it. It is just dark.
Initially I made it for my own use, but decided to share it.
  • It has all layouts and full functionality from the original theme, I removed nothing.
  • I used the original graphics and recoloured or rebuilt them.
  • It includes the user editable Flow feature, also in the additional layouts. More information here: Editing the Default 5 Theme.
  • The colors you choose for your tracks are more visible. If you want your project look pastel-color or saturated, it looks more like your chosen colors. But its overall appearance is dark.
Latest update: 07/01/2021 => Details in this post.
Full ChangeLog is in the download links.

There are 2 versions now:The Themes are available via ReaPack.

Kudos and all credits go to White Tie and Bernstraw.

Here are some differences I want to mention:
This has changed:
- if you use the "Dual Pan"-Mode, the color of the right channel is red, the left channel is blue, according to the other pan colors
- the Transport Play/Pause buttons: if stopped, they are "unlit", if on/pause is active, they are "lit"
- the meters are 3-color-style (green/yellow/red)

This has been added:
- a layout named "Standard bottom" for the Transport Bar, which can be useful when you have the Transport Bar docked at the bottom of the main window. This layout adds a little space below the Play Buttons.
- a drum toolbar button for the MIDI Editor. If you use the "Named Notes Mode" for drums and want a drum icon there, you can take this one.

There is already a drum icon in REAPER, but since v5.22 these Mode-Icons in the MIDI Editor have a frame around them. I added this frame to that toolbar icon, it looks like this:

For download and details of the toolbar icon please go to stash.

That's it, I hope you like it!

Default Bug Repport`

Hey - this is pretty nice. I like it a lot. Thanks.

But I found a lil' bug.

I have Ed's color toolbar installed.

A.) When the mouse pointer crosses a color buttun, I'm getting these little white outlines around the buttons over which the mouse has passed over.

B.) This only happens in full-screen mode.

I'll still use it though, even if this never gets rectified. Because, well, gosh darn it, I just like it.

Thank you, glad you like it! I installed ED's toolbar and I'm sorry, I can't reproduce the bug. I had to match it to german language first and it works.

Hey! Today it's fine. (???)

Don't get it... don't care. All is well.

Thanks again for this.

Hey, thanks a lot for sharing this.
It looks great in the eyes from the first moment.

And since the functionality is the same as the original, i think i will stick to it.

And these red and yellow colors in the tracks(mute, solo, etc), they are beautiful.

Default Update with Colormap and separators

Hello all,
here is an Update with a reworked colormap for the MIDI-Editor, some changes in the track list of the ME and also the requested separators for the arrange view and the mixer.

I wanted to modify the colormap cause I like the gradient I've made for the unselected notes and thought I could do something more like that. It took me quite a while to rebuild the default colormap and to find out how the colors and gradients are chosen before I could start tinkering around with it. And my final conclusion was that it is perfect AS IT IS. Finally it ended up with minor tweaks at the frames of the notes and the saturation of one single note... ...and the unselected notes are a little brighter. You probably will not notice that at all.
But at least my Photoshop and Illustrator skills are a bit better now.

I also fixed some ugly things I overlooked like the 3D-Highlighting in the IO-Routing windows.

The separators can have names, I used a bold font which you can change in the theme editor (it's Font 8).

Default Update

Hello,
I decided to make two versions, that gives me the option to keep the "Default5Dark" as it is and add more layouts to the "Extended" version. So you can choose which one you want to use.
As mentioned already, I can't stop thinking of new Reaper users just wanting a darker theme, but with the same layout.

So the new "Default 5 Dark Extended" Theme has the separators and will have more layouts in the future. I'm working on some tcp-layouts and folder indention in the mixer.

For the track layouts, here's a little teaser :

Was quite hesitant at first as narrow minded and committed to WT or early Default v5 Themes. Seems you have done a great job and had already started using Default v5 Dark.

Thank-you for impressive work and this new 'Extended' Theme !

Default dB meter gets stuck on red color after loud signal

Hi there

I am using "Default_5_Dark_Extended" and love this already. Thanks for the great work.

The only odd thing I noticed is the dB meter colors on track and mixer gets stuck on RED color once the meter hits in red signal zone.

Otherwise a great theme. many thanks

Thanks for this GREAT enhancement to the regular theme. After a full week of work, it has become my main theme. Great balance between upgrading the default theme without having to relearn where is everything.

Nice Job!!!

Default Extended Theme Upgrade

Hi,
the "Default 5 Dark Extended" Update is in the stash, with:
  • Horizontal Meters in the TCP
  • Bernstraws "Foldermeter"
In post #64 you can see what it looks like.

Downloads:Thanks to the posters for the encouragement!

This is intended to point out that something has "oversteered". This behaviour is the same as in the default theme.
And by the way, I'm happy that you find my Theme-mod worthy enough to write your very first post here.

Hi!.

In narrows layouts is not possible to open the folders.
Could this problem be solved in the future?

Thanks!

Hi javiramallo,
seems like you found a general bug here. I can confirm this even with the default theme. You should report that in the bug forum.

For the time being you can use a custom action by heda from the stash and assign it to a key command or a toolbar button.

Sorry that I can't help you , to be honest, I've never noticed that behaviour, but it should be fixed.

Greetings,
Peter

Default Fix found

javiramallo,
I found a fix:

in the rtconfig search for "macro draw_strip" and scroll down a bit to "front mcp.trackidx" and comment that out with a semicolon (see screenshot).
The "front" command pushes the index (track-number) above other elements. Commenting this out stops that.

OK, you're losing the tracknumber on this particular tracks, I admit.

HTH,
Peter

PS: Hope, I haven't overlooked something...

Much too late:
  • "recarm_norec" images added
  • all toolbar icons from v5 theme added + some own icons
Sorry for the huge delay, I have not been able to work on a computer more than 15 minutes in a row for 2 years...
