Default REAPER 'Forum Meet'? 'Users Convention'?

Was just wondering, has there ever been a REAPER users convention or meet or get-together? Seems like there's some pretty cool people around here and I thought it'd be interesting to maybe one day actually meet some of them... Personally I'm not the most sociable person, but I could see myself slinking in the back of a crowd of REAPER users... I mean, how cool would it be to actually meet Kenny and Karbo?

That's actually a pretty cool idea, and since we are all over the world, maybe we can set up something through zoom.

I'd be happy to host it. Would be fun to just hang out with people whom I have run into for over a decade but never met in real life and possibly never will.

If PNW = Pacific Northwest. I go there every few years (I live on the East coast), if that ever happens again I'll look you up. I've actually met a user or few in person over the years, no one has found the bodies yet... so far so good.

My local Guitar Center once hosted a Cakewalk Sonar symposium. I was ID'd by other local Sonar users from my line of questioning to the Cakewalk people. Nobody knew what I looked like coz it was NNTP text based user groups back then, but after the seminar, several people came up to me and asked "are you Glennbo?".

Personally, I don't think the zoom thing would work for me. I wouldn't get much if anything more seeing talking heads on a screen vs. reading their writing in posts... I need to see them in the natural environment, like an anthropological study - Does Karbo's handlebar mustache blow in the wind? Does Kenny G. break down his sentences into crisp sound bites like he does in his videos??...

Now that I think about it, I'm guessing it probably wouldn't quite work out. For example, I participate in an online car forum for my somewhat unusual car, and once in a while there's regional meets. I went to one of those. But cars vs. DAW software, or maybe 'audio engineering' in general, they're just sort of different things. Cars you actually want an excuse to take off and travel somewhere - to use the car, but with REAPER users? You'd probably need a broader 'epistemic community' to make the event worth while for most people, maybe, not just reaper users or forum-goers, but some audio engineering event or convention (or something like that), where reaper users decided to gather...

Or, what would probably need to happen is that a small group would already be regionally clustered, somewhat in touch, they'd plan a get together - and then open it up to all REAPER users...

Doesn't sound like this has taken place before...

I think the idea has a lot of merit. The logistics are huge but other likeminded groups of people manage to hold conventions etc. Also, the global question can be solved by regional meetings.

In the US, a convention could be tagged onto something like NAMM. In Europe, Superbooth or some other music expo.

I'm down. I've only met up with I think one person from here, a couple of times over the past decade or so.

Being a long time member of the Harmony Central Bass Forum, those guys would have a member occasionally decide to host a meet-up. basically invite all the members who were around to come on over. I think the one I went to had about 20-30 members come. It was literally "come as you are". Planned a month or so in advance, people just showed up.

Then get Justin and Schwa join a meet-and-greet! And nag them till the end of the convention about things YOU want integrated in Reaper!

On a more serious note, I think the idea is great! I fully support the idea of an online meeting! Don't need any more casualties of this damn virus...

That's the kind of thing about which people would have to show some restraint. I know you're joking around, but it'd be something that would likely happen, with 'Reaper celebrities'... It reminds me of me and my sister: she's a doctor, and in the distant past I might have asked her about this or that ailment, and she'd say, "What does your doctor think?" Kind of pissed me off, but I get/got the message.

Or during the pandemic, via Zoom ... that way everyone from around the world (including Europe, Australia, etc.) can join without the hassle of international travel. I'll be happy to host.

I highly doubt anyone was trying to not be inclusive. We'll accept you with open arms if you feel like booking a flight from down under to the USA.

indeed, arranging a worldwide meeting for Reaper would be... daunting. And would still likely take place in the states.

He lives down the road from me, about 4 hours away. If he's ever up this way I'll buy him dinner.

On an unrelated note, perhaps the funniest random collection of thoughts in a forum signature I've seen. Thanks Jae.Thomas for a good laugh! 😂

Hah making it on Zoom sounds like a tolerable time investment...

Of course the problem with Zoom is that you can't have 30 separate (2-3 person) conversations going at once, which is how these things usually play out.

Perhaps a more "curated" form then...
