I have to wonder if they are going to make Proton for desktop Linux capable of playing every game they have. It currently won't play Need For Speed High Stakes, or several other EA titles I have from my Windows days.

Its gonna be interesting to see what happens. Valve tried the mini pc thing a few years ago and it died on its arse, but the VR kit seems to have sold acceptably, even without many 'killer apps'.

I gotta think this is going to be way more successful. And if thats the case, more apps/games for Linux? I dunno. I wasnt sure if posting this was too off topic but it seems like there is maybe a potential Linux push about to happen, so thought posting might be ok

My kid is a gamer and Arch user. We messed with Proton on my machine but never could get any of the EA stuff to work. Then my kid got me a copy of DiRT which is also a Windows game, but it plays fine without Proton. The handheld version of Proton must smell more like Windows.

DiRT is great fun. Not that I play games these days.

So, when do we get a Reaper version for this?

And can I get BFD working on it?

It's about the only game I have on my machine.

Wait, if it's running Linux with an x86 architecture, it prolly will run REAPER.

Unless BFD has heavy copy protection, it should run fine in Linux. Superior Drummer 2 and EZ-Drummer 1 are as quick and responsive as they ever were in Windows.

You have one more thing in common now that you're using Manjaro.

Arch Linux: bringing families together.

Well, it is interesting, but to quote the article:
"isn’t designed to be used as a general purpose distro and doesn’t put out easy to use ISO images.

Developed and maintained by the Linux System Group at Microsoft, CBL-Mariner is in fact Microsoft’s internal Linux distro that’s specially tuned for use within its cloud infrastructure and edge products and services."

So they aren't considering it on a consumer level.

Mebbe, but I daresay the Linux community would not trust it to not have little secret MS "goodies" under the hood
