Default White Tie asks : what next?

I've got a load of partial themes in various states of repair, and given that it takes a great deal of work to get from "a few buttons and faders" to a finished theme, I thought I'd test the waters with you peeps. So, power to the people! - any preference as to which I should finish?

These are just sketches, so apologies that none of the button labels etc... have been thought through yet.

------------------------------------------
1. Quiet Life

Looking for a more relaxed home for my Cornish Cream fader, here's the sketch. Its a two in one, with some utterly standard 'European' style buttons at the top, and 'scare the client' unlabelled chrome silliness at the bottom. Either way is fine by me...

------------------------------------------
2. None More Black

Going for that high contrast feel where the interface is dull and austere until you press a few buttons whereby it bursts into colour (haven't done that bit yet!)

Incidentally, both of these first two themes work with Reaper's built-in VU colours, so the user can teak with ease. They seem to be very much a matter of personal preference. Looks like this:

------------------------------------------
3. Troublemaker

Only a fool would drag this design out of the archives, given its apparent ability to start a flame war at 50 paces. Well, never mind...! Uses some heavy hacking of the overlays to allow the different parts to join up without going wrong on the TCP.

Any helpful comments would be much appreciated.

Top o the mornin to ya, White. I am one that really prefers lighter themes, so my 2 cents are for Quite Life (love the contrast) and Troublemaker (because it is so different). BTW, you may have noticed that I avoid the emotional UI discussions, but am always one of the first to give these a try, and have coffee and cream (slightly modified) as my standard. I (we) really owe you a lot for the graphic work that you have contributed.

None more black has some cool faders. WT I would just like to thank you for this stuff. I have ripped off much of my current theme from you. I would actually like to see more 3D button, fader, window ideas. Maybe just compile a batch of unique tidbits instead of trying to create a whole theme. I wish I could do even a fraction of what you're accomplishing here.

BTW can you tell how you get access to the background panels a such? The giudelines don't tell anything about dimensions or pixels. Just file names.

where's the "all of the above" button

They each look great, really.

I voted for one (None More Black because I work in really low-light situation and can't take the eye strain of a light theme) but, honestly, any of them would be just great.

I'm agree with U, JBM, I often use "midnight apparition" theme or "My Aldi Stealth 3a" theme, but through the choice WT gave to us, I prefer he first one.
the second is too dark

I voted for Quiet Life. Trouble Maker seems to have a bit more potential for any upcoming channelstrip configuration.

Clear work. Nice. I know some folks will realy like the black theme, but I'm more for lighter types.

I voted Troublemaker, but I also really dig Quiet Life.

None More Black just doesn't anything for me, though I do like the reference.

Troublemaker
(i said it twice 'cause it's twice as nice.)

my only caveat and question is does this hold up with the pan fader at the top?

I voted troublemaker. I like fools. But these None More Black faders are a must have... The troublemaker ones could be a bit less blurry? At least they look a bit blurry to me.

Second place: None More Black. A great design as well, with the columns. Very classy.

Difficult choice really... but troublemaker started a lot of trouble in various threads before, so that's the one we need! Plus we've been staring at this thing so long; now we want to see it in action...

Great work, WT, and nice to put up a poll.

NOT!
It's the first theme (IMO) that looks like a no-nonsense professional audio device. It's easy to look at, not blinding-bright like some theme submissions I've seen. It's the kind of look that will impress the ProTools-using hordes.

good points there, but it lacks contrast or depth to me...

but yeah, anything is an upgrade from the protools UI
but of course, this is a very subjective matter

Super Stuff as usual!!!!

1. No More Black - Super stylish!!! Just one thing to be perfect, the shape of the fader button should (if I may) be like Mykatik's Marck One theme here http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11061 or PipelineAudio's Studer theme pic in post #24 here http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11009

That would make it my Definitive theme!!

2. Troublemaker = awesome!!! Again, If I could have something like the faders mentioned above...

3. Quiet Life = not my kind of theme, but can you ever disappoint anyone with these kind of work???

Many, many thanks!

I still prefer Troublemaker, but I whole heartedly agree with the above statement. Quiet Life looks simple, but also extremely tasteful and functional. I.e. it looks like it belongs to a serious application. Troublemaker looks like it belongs to a flashy application. None More Black just looks dull to me and as though it were designed solely for making goth.

OK let's be reasonable here. We wait till troublemaker is on top again and immediately close the poll. Just to avoid further trouble.
