Default Audio sequencer?

Anybody know if there is such a thing?

What I'm trying to do is arrange songs from audio files in Reaper. for example I have a project and it contains verse, intro, bridge chorus etc. I would like to take these audio files and be able to have them say on a horizontal grid and re-arrange just to listen. I'll do all the final stuff in reaper but just want to sketch out an arrangement.
I know I could do it with regions or Playtime but both are a bit clunky. I could do it with a sampler also and move stuff around in reaper's sequencer. Again this would work. Geist lite may work. Just seeing if there is a dead simple workaround

Like any DAW, Reaper is essentially an audio sequencer. Surely it's not hat hard to just drag things around on the timeline is it? Just do an arrangement on a track, then for a different arrangement, duplicate the track and rearrange the audio items. It would take less than a minute per arrangement. This assumes that each audio item is, as you say, a whole verse or chorus etc, as a single stereo track.

Thanks for advice. Yes, when I posted it I felt a little sheepish because Reaper is an audio sequencer lol. I just need to set gridlines to 1 bar and do as you say.

Thgis is still not quite as easy as it would seem if you are wanting to copy and paste complete sections.

I`ve been wanting a PROPER arrange page in Reaper for years & no sign of interest from the devs so far.

The main solutions for now appear to be SWS Region Playlists and Playtime, neither of which addresses all the concerns needed by song arranging tasks per se...

It is not clear from your description where exactly you see
the problem in Reaper.

When it comes to modular arranging, i.e. with verses,
pre-chorus and chorus, then Reaper works excellently as long
as none of the parts are to be repeated. Typically, however,
the chorus, or at least parts of the chorus, is repeated.

So once you start working with repetitive parts, Reaper
becomes extremely cumbersome. You can find a more
general approach to this problem here.

Could you not just have your source items for each section on a 'scrapbook' track - edge-drag them to repeat, and just comp the sections you need to another track (alternatively, volume-envelope unwanted sections out).

YMMV but in about 12 years of using Reaper most days, I've never bothered with sub-projects.

If you have a Midi keyboard, you may :
- put a marker/region at the beginning of each audio section;
- map each marker to a midi note,
- then, you can trig the markers on the fly (just like a sampler would do)

Since when there is midi mapping capability on markers? This is new to me. Thanks for sharing this idea.

I can't remember :P I haven't used it for a long while, but I remember I used it a couple years ago... Maybe it was using SWS extensions ?
Maybe it was using Helgoboss's Playtime?

Default JS Super 8 Looper?

Just a thought -- you could give this a try. It's a bit primitive to similar thing you'll find in other DAWs but it is built into Reaper. You can load up the different sections of your song and trigger them with the pads or via MIDI. Might give you a way of achieving what you're looking for.

Find it in the JS Effects. The god that is Kenny Gioia has also made one of his excellent videos about how to use it -- that's here: https://youtu.be/hiSTeVlinAg

use regions to mark your parts ( chorus bidge etc ) then you can rearrange regions white easy. Reaper will split the audio files within the region borders automatically

Best would be if Reaper could do also following:
You define a list/sequence of midi events you want to auto-assign to any new generated markers. Most left marker triggered by x, next by y ...
Then you need to define this list of midi mapping events (to markers) only once and could use it anywhere immediately.

You could even sequence those jumps then. I can imagine following practical technique. In hackey trackey take a column for jump events, but muting this channel, as long as you do not want to jump. Unmute again, for activating the jump. And so on. Only hackey trackey has so far only "channel solo" function, but no channel mute/unmute feature yet. Maybe in some future, after master saike will read this, hopefully. But hackey patterns can mute patterns, so it can be used there directly.
