Default ? from old Win guy but this is for Mac people

Helping friend set up his Mac with reaper today... geez some stuff looks so diff...

OK he has focusrite 18i20, and also has a Korg M1 physical keyboard synth...

Now I can get the M1 to send midi into reaper, and
I can take the audio out of the M1 into one of the 18i20 audio inputs and record the wav file...

What I can't seem to do is send midi from a track to the M1 and have it play that midi, so that I can record the wav out to another track...

the various pref's settings for Mac audio and midi are not nearly as clear to me as on my own Windows 7 64 bit event...

any step by help greatly appreciated...

Greetings, old Win guy You know way more about Reaper than I do, but since I'm sitting at a Mac and no one else has responded, random thoughts. Damn. that's an old synth - is it possibly broken? I'm sure you've checked this, but under prefs/audio devices/midi devices, is it in midi devices to make available (selectable as track output)? Found this link to an owner's manual, but very little info on midi connectivity. Sorry, that's all I've got.

Check settings from page 115 of the manual for midi channel send/recieve and the local mode switch:

thanks to you both and I hope especially to Tim... that certainly looks like it could be the problem... I'll check back in a few days when I can get this guy to try that.

I am assuming if that setting is changed, then the M1 should show up as a midi device both in reaper and in the mac system pref's for midi things???

No.

Reaper will only see the midi port in your computer.

In the 1970's world of midi, the end devices aren't intelligent to report their identity back to the software.
Once the data is passed to the midi port, the keyboard is on it's own.

so ok... or maybe ok... I am not at 'his' house so can't test until I'm there again...

there is only this one M1... so then shall I assume when iut is set to EXT, that it will receive midi from a media item in reaper? I suppose I can control it by telling it to only receive on channel 4 or 6 or whatever?

what is desired it that the M1 gets midi from just one track, you see...
