Default [rock] "bad boy"

Our newest song: bad boy (mp3)

Website with animation: "bad boy"
Note: This requires clicking the grey "play"-button.

With this song we decided to give warmth over transparency. That
means the guitar keeps its frequencies around 300 Hz. We like
that a lot, but it has the disadvantage that it might sound a
bit grumpy to some.

Enjoy!

I like the song a lot, and the performance is very good. Really solid and tight instrumentation, good harmonies. Very enjoyable. The vocal style especially reminds me of Greenday. Almost everything about this track seems spot on to me. You didn't ask for suggestions, so I want make any. They would be taste-dependent niggles if I did.

Getting a bit of a Weezer sort of vibe here. I think they have crafted some very well written tunes, so I hope you take that as a compliment. It's that 50's inspired major scale happy sounding progression done with a rock flair that makes me think of them. Good stuff.

I'm not hearing anything in the low mids that I find objectionable. They are thick, but that's not a bad thing. It's not crossing over into muddy territory, so I think you did a good job of keeping that area dense without losing control of it.

I do have a small nit that I would like to offer in that there is a particular bass note in the chorus (it repeats a few times throughout the progression) that is not in tune with the underlying guitar chord (or the guitar chord is doing something that makes the bass sound off). Either way, it's not coming across as 'pleasurably dissonant', rather it sounds like there are notes that don't belong together.

Yes, we - will take a look at Weezer. In any case, it calms
you down when you classify the middle area as OK.

In the chorus, the bass actually plays a somewhat daring part
that triggers different reactions. We'll look at that again -
thanks for the hint!

Good feedback, very appreciated!

@kindafishy:

Regarding the bass-note - you were totally right.
Somehow another bass-wav-sequence was selected,
and measure 3 was on G instead of F. That was basically
the wrong tone. And the wrong bass sequence comes from
the time when we tried different chord progressions.

What upsets me is that none of us heard this. Did we only
listen to the song via iPhone and boom box? Ooops, I
think we need to rebuild the listening and testing process
... in any case, thank you for hearing that!

PS: The song has of course been corrected in the meantime.
