Was doing taxes and going nuts yesterday, so I took a break and slapped this together. Figured I'd share; it's just a short. As for the mix, it's my first time mixing with a "grotbox", which I found helpful. I basically composed and initially mixed with my monitors, then switched over to the grotbox and tweaked a couple things, and went back and forth once or twice, and voila.
Well, I could have just called it a beat, I suppose. A hip hop instrumental is generally just a hip hop beat with no lyrics on it. If you mean there's no such a thing as instrumental hip hop, some people do make a lot of that stuff. Madlib and Dilla makes/made a lot of hip hop instrumentals - stuff that's clearly hip hop but doesn't really have room for a rapper without sounding cluttered.
Thanks for the feedback. I feel what you're saying about how this could be the intro to an instrumental track.
Way not my sort of music but I thought it was cool and like IMHO the best of "hip hop instrumental" however you define it I too could hear this as an intro to a longer piece. Sounded kinda ... confident if that make sense.
Anyhow I suggest ditching the tax returns and go back to being creative...
