Can't wait till you'll start working with LCDs and Sysex. It would be interesting to see, how the LCD would respond to those changes.

Probably a week or two away.

The internals have been completely redesigned, control granularity has been increased to a per Widget level as opposed to a Real Surface level.

In practical terms this means we can now treat any arbitrary set of Widgets as a Cluster, Channel, Matrix, etc. -- extreme flexibility.

Right now I'm doing performance tuning to get it back to snappy.

So, a week optimistically, probably more like 2.

Cool, I thought it might have taken you longer, way to go, you must be clocking up the hours working on it.

Yeah, it's pretty grindy, but we're getting there.

Hey Geoff and all, been watching this with anticipation!

I must admit I kinda got lost the past few pages with what you guys are talking about, I probably just need to download and try.

Where is it at in terms of Faderport 8? Is there any sort of folder mode? That would be amazing, I was never able to get it to work with Klinke's and it would make the faderport 8 incredibly usable for what i do.

There was a bit of discussion about the FP8 a few pages back, I think it's actually the latest control surface considered.

For memory the Mackie MCU.rst and MCU.axt files should get you going, I don't think anyone with a FP8 has created an actual map yet. So if you're feeling up for a bit of fun?...

But I think you'll be able to get a feel for the expansive possibilities of Geoff's project if you get your hands a little dirty and give the pre-alpha a try. Don't expect a fully functioning all singing all dancing, bells and whistles, but it does work, and is only going to get better.

Sounds awesome, I'd love to try and create a map, will see what I can figure out.

I seem to recall someone on here with an X-touch, again most work to a degree with the standard Mackie MCU.rst and axt files, but to get the most you need a custom map for your control surface.

Give it a go with the mcu, first and work from there.

Yep: X-Touch Compact.
A "big" X-Touch seems to more mimic the Mackie.
Regarding the Compact I'll do some tests as soon as Geoff wants me to or claims a release candidate version.

I get the feeling an RC may be some time away. Considering we don't have an actual alpha yet. lol

Good things come to those that wait...but time waits for no one.

It's not impossible that Geoff will want me to test an Alpha. But as I will use the XTouch Compact in native "standard" Midi (non Mackie) mode, that might be a bit more complex and less predictable than tests with the Mackie-Clone Control Surface boxes.

My guess would be that that's exactly the kind of testing this project warrants, where you can map your surface as it comes default, without changing to Mackie mode.

The jog wheel is not mapped in the .axt file in the pre alpha.

There is currently no action for the jog wheel, but you could map it to something else.

The best way to see how it works is to simultaneously open the .rst file, .axt file, and .fxt file for the MCU and connect the dots, it's not hard, the .rst names the widgets and the .axt and .fxt connect the widgets to Reaper/FX Actions.

To make a map, turn on MIDI In Monitor on the config panel and just start hitting buttons

FYI update, new keyword alert:

Invert.

Used like Shift/Control, etc., but for Actions.

Example:

FX Bypass
Checked = operational
Unchecked = bypassed

Console1
Compressor on (lit) = operational
Compressor off (unlit) = bypassed

We need to reverse the switch sense.

.fxt file entry that accomplishes this:

Threshold Thresh
Compressor Invert+Bypass
Ratio Time Const

Simple, and consistent with Shift/Alt, etc.

sorry to be dense...

in the rst I have

JogWheel Encoder b0 3c 01 41

in the axt I'll need a reaper action to correspond to JogWheel left (01) and another to JogWheel right (41)

but I don't see an examples in the .axt - is this doable?

To get that behaviour, try something like this:

JogWheelLeft ButtonWithLatch b0 3c 00 01
JogWheelRight ButtonWithLatch b0 3c 00 41

and then attach appropriate actions.

Is the transport working correctly now, to allow for jog wheel action?

Geoff, would it be possible to incorporate a "Sends on Fader" feature where the sends for one specific track appear on the faders? This would make vocal FX automating extremely fun and easy, for example...

Yeah, that's definitely planned.

if you want to crawl back in this thread (yucch) you will find a discussion of exactly this topic somewhere way back there

Hey Geoff et all!

Finally got a little chance to play around with this on my FP8.

Was able to install and get the FP8 seeing faders no problem. But as soon as i go back to preferences and try and touch anything (wanted to enable midi monitoring) the whole thing goes dead and i need to restart it and reaper...

I am in MCU mode at the moment.

That happens for everyone at the moment, it's the current pre-alpha version, not anything you are doing. lol

Also be careful with midi monitoring, while handy for setting up your configs, running that as you work will cause issues too.

Any additions in the redesign, Geoff?

Or have you been purely refactoring code?

Completely new architecture, requiring the huge refactoring.

This will facilitate future feature additions.

As far as the next released build, very minor changes, but will require new .rst, .axt, and .fxt files.

Hopefully within a week there will be a release.

Good to know, thanks Geoff. Only Achilles Heel seems to be lack of effects control for plugins
