I havent seen much on either take-up or trials so far... wondering how long it will take before it becomes the new standard & if there is any chance of backward compatibility based on the spec so far released?

It's all about backwards compatibility, while adding a whole lot of useful and interesting stuff (i.e. bidirectional communication, capability inquiry, property exchange, etc.)
