There are a handful of bugs that still need to be sorted out: some in the script code, but unfortunately also one OSX bug in REAPER itself, which was only introduced in v6.0, long after Sexan started coding this script. Please encourage the devs to fix this bug.

I'm also impatient to use it on mac.. and to understand how to install that. Is it a mouse modifier? The reapack script are loaded and visibles in action list, but I don't know what's next step.

The script has been completely rewritten (I even questioned my intelligence when I saw some parts of the code). Script now has dramatically less code.

Small update, but big one for mankind. Its working on OSX (thank you Stevie) but there is some issues with actual drawing on screen (but its working there are invisible areas and you can delete and do stuff but its not draw on screen). Will need to ask Julian for help here.

Since it was MAJOR code rewrite there are still some things missing, but 70% is there. But i would REALLYY like to solve the osx issues before releasing it.

Sexan's work is coming along nicely. He is just fixing all the coordinates stuff for OS X. For the drawing (done via JS API) you need to switch the GUI mode from Metal to classic mode. You need to restart REAPER in order to apply the changes.

But I am wondering if that switch to classic draw mode leads to (GUI) performance loss in Reaper ..ie: less smooth and snappy GUI.

Anyway script works 100% on OSX now,need to finish porting some functions and release it to the wild.

Regarding this drawing mode on OSX:
It is necessary for JS_API to work (DRAWING part), so until Justin fixes it, not much I can do. Is there a perf loss I do not know

I couldn't see any disadvantages, yet. GUI is still snappy, here.

For anyone that wants to test download the attachment, put it anywhere, load "Refactor script". Have fun!

Code:
CTRL (CMD) + SHIFT + DRAG --> Make SINGLE AREA
CTRL (CMD) + SHIFT + ALT + DRAG --> Make MULTIPLE AREAS
1,2,3,4 etc --> ACTIVATE SINGLE AREA FROM MULTIPLE ONES WHILE IN COPY MODE
CTRL (CMD) + SHIFT + CLICK --> CLEAR ALL AREAS

CTRL (CMD) + C --> COPY MODE (Show ghost helpers)
CTRL (CMD) + V --> PASTE
CTRL (CMD) + D --> DUPLICATE
CTRL (CMD) + S --> SPLIT

ESC --> CLEAR ALL AREAS

Area resizing - Click and drag over the edges of the area to extend or in center to move area
OSX USERS THIS IS A MUST! Also restart Reaper after change!


Also JS_API is required, grab it via ReaPack.

No need to change any modifiers, script bypasses all when mouse is over area

Sexan, Julian, this is a awesome.

Installed and had lots of fun playing. Just had a crash, attached is the log from the console. I should add that I often had some gremlins related to switching the Graphics Engine. Most notably the Playhead Cursor not updating.

For any users who got lost like me the script name on ReaPack is called
"js_ReaScriptAPI: API functions for ReaScripts"

This is absolutely fantastic. This will, I hope, eventually become one of my most used scripts.

A couple notes in my short time.

One: It does not do anything with Automation Items. It doesn't recognize them, and only copies the envelope underneath. That's a definite must-have for me. I do almost all of my automation within AI's.

Two: Encountered an error. This happens whenever you click near on a corner of an Area Selection.

AIs are not yet implemented, will be soon. Regarding error cannot reproduce it can you make gif?

Your issue seems to be related to alt-tabing from reaper to other app. Did you switched applications while Area was drawn in reaper?

Nope, never went away from the Reaper window. It's specifically clicking the 4 corners that causes that. The top/bottom/sides/middle are fine.

Is there a thread or something we can bump in the dev pre-release versions to request to get this fixed? Would be really great if we could use this with the metal enabled drawing mode. I don't really know what I'm asking for to be fixed. I use dark mode with Reaper and it works well on mac but using an older drawing mode makes dark mode unusable. It needs metal to run smooth. The older drawing mode seems to work with the same performance using non-dark mode. Anyhow this is great progress!
