Default Add "Learn MIDI" feature for track faders

Please add a MIDI "learn" feature for individual track faders.

When I right-click on the fader, the routing opens up.
The routing?? Seriously? Why? It makes no sense to me.

Adding a right-click "MIDI Learn" feature will make it much easier/faster to automate a track w/MIDI CC.

Yeah is one of this things that is unfurtunate. Reaper don’t treat track volume and pan (and others) as cc. We all would prefer an abstraction on this. As a user they should be the same.

With plugin parameter modulation there are two very different kinds of sources for controlling events ("Midi"): Track Midi (called "modulation") and "Reaper Control Path" (called "Learn"). Both would be needed to be considered.

OTOH there is the "MidiLearn" plugin than (AFAIK) can do all this.

The difference between controlling stuff (e. g. Plugin parameters) by Midi CC messages in the "local" track via "[Param] -> Midi Link" or via "[Param] -> Parameter Modulation / Midi Link" vs from the "global" messages in the Reaper Control Channel via "[Param] -> Learn" has been discussed a lot of times and is the source of a lot of confusion as it is not very obvious in the Reaper GUI.
Obviously modulating track volume and other track parameters needs to work in the same way as parameter modulation.

There are actions "Track: Set volume for track n (MIDI CC/OSC only)" but personally I'd use ReaLearn for it.

Yes, I agree 100%.
ReaLearn is fabulous and does this pretty quickly so this'll work for me just fine.

But the "learn" idea seemed like a good one

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it.

Peace, fellow- Reaper lovers!

Those actions are not project-specific nor follow the track if it's number changes

For sure.
If ReaLearn wouldn't exist I might have left Reaper already for its non-existing MIDI learn features (controller feedback, fixed sends assignment...).

While I do admire ReaLearn (while hating the name that targets way too short), for stuff like controller feedback, CSI also might be considered.
The great beauty of Reaper's is that it allows our knowledgeable friends to do such plugins.
