Calf Plugins with lv2 to vst wrapper
Hello, has anybody tried to use the Calf plugins with this lv2 wrapper? https://github.com/x42/lv2vst
I have gotten it installed, but I am not clear on how to proceed from there. If anyone can offer some more clear instructions and insight, I will be grateful. Thank you. |

There were a couple of Calf plugins I wanted to try, but I read some post here that the GUI doesn't come up for the plugins, at least the way they were doing it so I lost interest in even trying to get them to work. I figured I'd hold out and hope for native LV2 support.

Yeah, the developer of the wrapper just let me know that they are not supported. I also will be glad if they add native LV2 support.

I think you can make them go with Carla, but then that gets into some kind of fancy routing, and in the end you get generic interfaces or something. Seemed like too much effort for too little return to me.

I connected guitar to calfjackhost and chained the saturator
to the phaser, and phaser to delay, delay to linux reaper audio input track, linux reaper audio output to wine windows-reaper audio input track, and gave that a couple of plugins, and on to system output. The three calf gui's opened and behaved fine. Not the same as halving them successfully wrapped, or as individual plugins, but with calfjackhost(s), they can be useful as a part of the whole. IIRC the procedure I saw outlined used some kind of LV2 to VST wrapper, then used LinVST or something so they could be loaded in FX bins like normal plugins. Patching them in REAPER was a lot simpler, but the GUIs were not there the way they were doing it.

I loaded calf plugins in linux reaper with latest Carla-rack,
and the Calf gui didn't open when called. The Carla editor did open, and it's well suited for use, but once carla's edit screen is closed, I can't re-open it. looks like Calf could benefit from some coding updates for current usage. A plugin version of calfjackhost would be very useful. Cheers |

Good news, the above was reaper/calf/carla tested with Enlightenement system gui, so I logged into a Cinnamon desktop session on the same computer,
and tested again, and the carla-rack plugin editor opened and closed properly, tested with the calf reverb, vintage delay, and flanger in the same session. So having multiple desktop environments might be a possible solution for some, with just a small investment. Cheers |

The Black GUI looks awesome. One of the best I've seen...big THUMBS UP!

It looks like all the calf plugin parameters are available in the carla tabs,
but without the nice visuals you get using calfjackhost. The gui launch button is grayed out in carla-rack in both ubuntu based setups I've tried, while calfjackhost works fine on the same installs. Cheers |

If you want to test all the Calf plugins why not just download em all into Audacity (thats what I did) at least they are plug n play and work well.
