Default Big update Manjaro

It's downloading A LOT of stuff. I'm scared, I've everything working the way I want it.
Let's see what happens, I'll let you know...

It all went without a hitch

And I'll go one further than XoechZ...If you don't want updates, disconnect from the internet (apparently it's a lot of work to get it back: https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=163)

It's alive. Still have to try my cadence/jack setup, but it looks good, I guess

An anomaly I saw during the Manjaro update was with the manjaro-keyring, which produced the following errors.

Code:
==> Appending keys from manjaro.gpg...
gpg: error reading key: No public key
Error while configuring manjaro-keyring
gpg: error reading key: No public key
Error while configuring manjaro-keyring
==> Locally signing trusted keys in keyring...
  -> Locally signed 1 keys.
==> Importing owner trust values...
==> Disabling revoked keys in keyring...
  -> Disabled 2 keys.
Doing a reinstall of manjaro-keyring results in the same two errors and the disabling of two keys, which I presume are the same.

I've seen this happen before and it resolved itself, but I'm looking into it with more scrutiny this time around.

From what I read a member of the Manjaro development team left, so his key is no longer valid, but the reference is still needed until the code he worked on is replaced or something along those liines.

That's kinda what I am finding as well. I found a few threads with commands to purge and then reinstate stuff, but one guy broke his system so his local home folder was inaccessible, so I skipped trying any of that.

yes correct
in manjaro and (I think) in all derivatives of Arch these errors sometimes occur ... it's normal ... you need to update the keyring ... on Arch "sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring"

Looks like they just pushed an update to address it via manjaro-keyring-20220514-1.

We seem to be missing one these days, though.
It would be nice to know what happened to James Peters.

His amps page is still up, but it hasn't been updated since 2020.

Hope he's not a Covid19 victim.

Is it me or did the latest KDE update in Manjaro change the font style (and maybe the size) a little in Dolphin? For the life of me it seems narrower.

Either that or I need to rest my eyes.

I wholly agree! In Xfce it is the same. I tried with the font settings but it is not the same. Not serious, but it is better if they address it sooner than later...

Everyone on Manjaro now huh?
On Manjaro KDE especially, i like likhan, waste less space and Manjaro seems to be the only one that have it pre-installed.
On Fedora KDE Noto Sans Semicondensed Semibold

Time flies and now ive been using linux long enough so it feels wierd to visit Windows, if you think you know what scary is
Long time a go it was called PC, now MS

I saw on the Manjaro forum that there was a few days of Timeshift issues, but i think it is fixed now

The first time I needed to tweak something on a Windows machine and couldn't instantly remember how to do it was like an epiphany that I was finally getting the eeevile ways of Microsoft and Windows out of my head.

does Manjaro automatically remove old versions of updated stuff or does it retain them?

I know that yay seems to keep 3 versions of everything. So yesterday when I installed latest librewolf and it was built on Arch using a dependency version not yet in Manjaro, it was super easy to go into the yay cache and yay -U the working one.

EDIT: looks like Pamac also defaults to keep 3 versions.

Microsoft lost me when they first put the GWX (Get Windows Ten) executable file on my Windows 7 machine, then after me disabling it with some registry keys, Microsoft circumvented me blocking them, by adding GWX.exe to normal security updates, so it would download and run without any permission from the user.

Lastly, if you were awake to see that Microsoft had started the install of an OS you might not want, they give you some buttons to click, but not one that says "DO NOT INSTALL". I put a stop to them thinking that they can go around me and do what they want with my computers.

Yep, absolutely shocking.

As a counter to that nonsense:

Yep, that's what did it for me too. I had skipped 8 and 8.1 as they were hideous, and I foolishly thought Monopolysoft would make up for it in 10. The fact they were giving it away seemed like an admission of the the error of their ways. How wrong I was. Fortunately, I was already exploring Linux at that point, so the transition was easy.

Interesting video. Watching it now.

I went from using and programming on Commodore 64s to Amigas, but then due to becoming employed as a programmer and IT guy for a company that worked totally with DOS and then later Windows when it came out. That made me need DOS and Windows machines, but for years I used my Amiga 2000 with a GoldenGate bridgeboard so I could run DOS and Windows as a full hardware speed tasks on my Amiga.

Finally in 2001 Windows XP finally had the preemptive multi-tasking I was used to on my Amiga, so I built my first Windows PC. Then in 2018 I switched seven machines in my house to Linux, and haven't looked back.
