It got even better. Not only is PT a stable DAW, but it is the MOST stable DAW.
Maybe he meant the most stable DAW made by Avid?

you should really make a difference between pro tools le and pro tools hd. i'm guessing you guys are talking LE, because HD is an extremely good piece of software, which has proved itself in thousands of studios, unlike reaper.
i don't understand the need to bash software. it's just tools.. use whatever you like. Reaper is great.. but for certain tasks PTHD is just better. It'll get there, until then no need to bash other software. It'll always be personal preference

Isn't PT9 the same as PTHD now, without the dsp-card? The big problem with PT9 as i see it is stability with 3rd party interfaces and the lack of VST support. And that is base on absolutely no first hand experience

no it's not, as far i know it doesn't even have input monitoring buttons per track and the delay compensation can only compensate for a certain (fairly small) amount of latency. tdm plugins were/are also a big advantage...

If I may suggest - politely and respectfully - that I'd fully expect that the overwhelming majority of carded out PTHD owners don't even use VSTI's often or at all. Some certainly do, but I don't think that's what most people buy PTHD for... to run a stack of virtual instruments.
John actually made some really good arguments as to why PT is lacking in a few ways compared to most other modern daws, but the VSTI thing other people talk about is a bit of a red herring and an orange in what's mostly an apple orchard.
If someone tells you PTHD never crashes, for them... ever... you might ask if they even use VSTI's... if that's what crashing yours. If they don't... why would they care?
I also think some other daws might have a little trouble recording 40 orchestral players, and feeding them all live cues, at 1ms latency, with multiple digital FX on the cue busses, without issue. So, sometimes a tool is very good at one thing and not so good at another.

as an everyday PT user i'll chime in with some opinions.
PT hd - stable as you like for tracking and editing. i use it with 24 ins to an SSL e-series. i personally wouldnt touch anything else on the commercial sessions that i'm currently involved with. but hd is a different world to their prosumer options. havent used VIs with it at all.
PT9 - i use it in my home studio for editing and the odd overdub. i still dont feel secure with it to use for anything else. VIs are a joke.
PT le - joke for tracking and mixing and VIs. still decent for editing.
i mix 100% on reaper now, no other DAW feels as stable under the heavy cpu loads i throw at it.
