Default Chop Up MIDI Drum Part

How would you guys go about this?

Lets say I have a 4 bar MIDI drum percussive thing I recorded. 100 takes. I wanna chop it all up together by taking certain parts from each performance. I obviously know about takes but I want to split 1 bar on one take and only a 1/4 on another etc. Whats the best way?

What you need is the split action, and I'd recommend snap to grid also be on for this.

The default shortcut to split is S.

With your item selected, create splits where desired and then use mouse click or cycle with T and Shift + T shortcuts through all the takes in your newly created items.

Small example of what this looks like:

If I understand you correctly, another option would be Item, Takes, Explode all takes to new tracks (from menu),

You can then split and edit each independently as you want, and if you wish Implode items across tracks to put them back on one track.

But I might have misunderstood ....

when i comp takes, first of all i don't use lanes because that's confusing as hell to look at once you start making splits.

then i find the best take and split it at the sections that could be better

then i cycle through the takes at the bad secition until i find something better.

i use a custom action to select item under mouse and select next/previous take so it's really quick, just point and shoot, without a bunch of clutter on the screen to make you insane. i've set 't' for next and 'r' for previous so i never have to look away from the screen while doing this since they're next to each other on the keyboard.
