Default "Counter" flashes red and sound distorts...

Hi,

During playback of maybe 8 tracks, I unmuted a track and it crackled with distortion for a moment before working properly.
At that moment, the area where the "counter" is, flashed red as that track distorted.

Any idea what's going on?
What does the distortion/flashing red "controls" mean??

I run a dual-core Dell laptop with 3gb of RAM and I have already disabled as much as I know how, and it never did this before. Even running 20 tracks w/effects.

If it's latentcy issues, I'd like to be pointed in the direction of one that's pretty easy to follow. I've already disabled a lot of things.

I use DPC Latency Checker, and there wasn't noticable spikes when this distortion/red flashes happened...so it confuses me.

Suggestions?

Peace,
K8ch

The flashing means that the system has problems to fill audio buffers in time and there's dropouts.

You don't give much info about your system and settings, so trying to help can only be stabs in the dark. 2 notes:

- Normally an ASIO driver for your audio interface will give the best possible results, so if you are using another driver mode, try switching to ASIO (ASIO4All, if there is no ASIO driver provided by the interface's manufacturer).

- I remember having huge dropout problems when my OS drive ( C: ) was enormously fragmented - defragmenting the drive was like night and day.

If the problems persist, please help us help you with more info about your system (OS, audio interface, driver mode, latency settings etc).

also you've got "processing of muted tracks" disabled in preference,
which at the moment of unmute causes slight glitches as the track
comes back online. enable it or dont unmute during playback.
