Default Reaper freezing and I need to restart computer

Hi,

Now and then Reaper is hanging/freezes and I need to do a Force Quit. If I don't restart computer it won't start anymore (only initializing). I have all my music setup in the same way. Same VSTi's, same effects, same drums. Can I load some kind of a program that tells me what instrument/fx or if it is the whole Reaper that freezes.

* SForzando with a few sfz soundfonts, bass, violin and piano

Instrument tracks - all in MIDI
* MT Powerdrumkit (8 tracks routed)
* Bass (2 tracks
* Amplesound Acoustic (Free) 2 tracks
* Piano (1 track)
* Synth (1 track)
* Strings (2 tracks)

Bus tracks
* Drum Bus (with some EQ and compression)
* Bass Bus (delay and distortion)
* Guitar Bus (reverb from either room or spring)
* Keys Bus (reverb)
* String Bus (reverb, delay)

Effect bus tracks
* Room Reverb (ReaVerb with impulses)
* Spring Reverb (same as above)
* Delay

Cadence settings
Sample Rate: 48000
Buffer Size: 768 (testing whats works best)
Periods/Buffer: 2 (same as above)

Latest verion of Reaper. 8GB RAM with 256GB SSD (Intel i5) Lenovo IdeaCentre (All-In-One) (Not the best but it works very well most of the time.

If Reaper doesn't produce a crash log, I don't see how you're going to know what caused the issue that way.

I'd suggest starting troubleshooting with this: try loading Reaper (with no project loaded), then when you're about to load that project from Reaper, check the option (at the bottom of the "open project" window) to open with the FX offline. After the project loads, enable plugins one by one and see when the problem happens. I'd guess it's something to do with the Windows/Wine-based plugins, so I'd load all the other plugins first (leaving the Windows/Wine-based plugins offline). That will probably help you get to the troublemaker fastest.

Just my bit
I loaded the latest Reaper recently and had a lot of trouble don't know
for sure if it is or was a fault with Reaper yet that said when I
installed Reaper version 5.75 most of my issues went away... Changing to
5.75 and even back takes just a minute or two might be worthwhile trying
that!

Tobbe.. that wan't a lenovo preloaded with Windows? (If it did; could have firmware/HD encryption or the like- very solvable if it is) My experience is that it resets to factory default... and hangs. Another lemovo laptop machine had 2: TWO! start up screens on for lenovo and one for Win.

Is that something I can shut down in BIOS? I deleted preinstalled Windows when I bought computer.

Good advice. Yesterday I think it was SForzando.

Thanks

Yes I found a lot of those preloaded win 8 ready laptops and idea pads (Amd & Intel) usually lenovo; Have a bios chip battery or capacitor. They are small and soldered on the board. If they are not totally shorted out all the firm and Win Bloatware comes back, tends not to save settings etc. Easily reversed when you find the chip.
