You can add a Feature Request for it, but i think that Cockos will implement the last Rewire version soon

This project needs to be mentioned when ReWire is in question as well.

+1 more than 16 channels is overdue.

I've tested Reason 6 (32 bit) with Reaper 4 prerelease using Apples virtual Midi ports to get more than 16 channels of midi.

The ports add a significant latency. Try to stem a drumbeat done with Reason - audio rewired and midi coming from virtula ports.

Even regular rewired midi adds a significant latency. A stemmed drumbeat is cutt off at the end since it starts delayed.

Yes i hope it will be possible, Rewire is underused in Reaper :

Real-time streaming of up to 256 individual audio channels (up to 64 with ReWire 1) from one application to another.

Real-time streaming of up to 4080 individual MIDI channels from one application to another (255 MIDI buses with 16 channel per bus). This feature requires ReWire 2.

4080 Midi Channels guys !!!

Default Please Rewire 64 bit and more than 16 Midi channels

+1

And maybe we'll get also Rewire ports - Justin was thinking about that a long time ago.

I attached an image of the new Vienna Ensemble Pro. They made more than one midi port per VEPRO instance possible by a seperate event plugin that creates an additional midi port. Each of these can be conneted to a new port.

Maybe this would be a way to implement more than 16 Rewire midi channels in Reaper. With 3 additional plugins we could cover all 64 channels.

That looks pretty interesting. What are they using the webserver (localhost) for?

It's no webserver. VEPro is a VST/AU host that works over the ethernet network or on a local machine (that's the reason for localhost in the image). It's like Reamote just "bigger".

Because of the VST 2 limits you could use only one port per Host and VEPro instance. With the new version the developed the concept of the additional "event input plugin". You put this plugin in your host - e.g. Reaper - and you can hook it up to VEPro as additional midi port. You can see the dropdown where you can choose the port in the image.

I though that might be a good concept for additional rewire midi ports in reaper since a single reaper channel can have unlimited audio channels but only 16 midi channels.
