AcquaVox Nebula plugin
I tried the free AcquaVox pre-amp from Acustica (Nebula) today and although it does appear to add a warmth to a pre-recorded vocal, I didn't think the "drive" function added any musical quality, and I found no discernable difference with the "liquidity" function?
It seems to use a lot of CPU as well.
Any experience with this pre anyone?

Hey edjay...As I understand it Aquavox is based on the Nebula core2 engine...I usually leave the drive knob pretty much where it is and drive it with the input knob (turning the output knob down to compensate) and leave the liquidity setting on zero...(if you get any clicks or pops raise the liquidity until they disappear...this parameter controls the fades between the kernels of the Nebula engine)...I think Aquavox is based on a Manley VoxBox...

I'll give that a try, thanks.
Have you been tracking with it successfully?
Is the liquidity knob something to do with the sample rate?
Have you had any problems using it on multiple tracks in the same song?

I haven't tried recording with it (as I don't usually 'track' with any plugins) but I have used it on a couple of tracks at the same time with no issue (I have Nebula3 Pro as well...and it is pretty CPU intensive too).Think of the liquidity knob as a 'smoothness' control...the lower it is the closer the pre will sound to the original hardware, and the more intensive the processing...if you need to you can raise it.

Sorry, I meant to say have you used it on any tracks - I'm the same, I always record completely dry from my DAV pre-amp straight into the soundcard.
I'm just off to do some more now so I'll have a look. Thanks

I tried passing my vocs through it in the mix and to be honest, I think it must have a very similar sound to my DAV as I can't really see that it makes any noticable difference; except for more gain: Either that or my ears are not that atuned to it's subtleties?
I think I'll pass on the Acquavox for the moment.
Perhaps it would be more noticable without having a DAV to work with?
Just out of curiosity, anyone know of any other interesting VST pre's?

It's pretty subtle...Lot of great pres available for Nebula.
Sir Elliot has just released one called the RT-1 (sounds pretty
good)...make sure you have a good trawl through the js plugins because there is some golden stuff in there too.
