Thanks for doing this! How would those portable boxes with sound absorbing materials compare to this? Can you get a lot of bang for the buck w/ one of these?

Nice results. You're lucky to have such a quiet space.

What boxes?
This is a lot of (non-)bang for the bucks yes.
Less then 3000Nkr/$460 I guess

Thanks!
Do you think in terms of sound-isolation?
Yes, regarding that I'm decent lucky. The rest is more acoustical survival

Your also showing some real ingenuity there.

Thanks!
Well, I did have plans for a proper home-studio ( >>),
but it just was too much money and work for me.
So, this is more on my level -in many ways.

I meant these things that can be made DIY for around $20-30.Obviously not like what you made but considering the different purposes I use this room for something small like this might work for me.
BTW, you did a great job!

With new materials and purchasing a couple of tools you may not have around the home eg a heavy stapler.
Using new material that is coloured even second hand there is no way in NZ you would get these for $20 a panel using your own labour.

I screwed up and didn't include the link I was referencing!!
Here's what I'm talking about;
https://www.google.com/search?q=diy+...Q&ved=0CDYQsAQ
It might not be ideal or up to your standards but it might be all that I can afford.

If you are prepared to wait and look around giveaway's are out there and sure
you could get all at giveaway prices.
The Rockwool can come from sheds and buildings being dismantled etc being in the right place at the right time is the think.
Perhaps someone in the States can start a search and observe team for getting details? on what second hand materials are out there when buildings are brought down.
Anyone in Reaper on a building crew, owner/manager of a wrecking firm!
"Materials for musicians"!
Worth a thought you have some high density population out there.

Yes, Rockwool is the biggest cost in this build, 2000Nkr for 20 sheets of 30mm thickness (if I remember correctly)
I had them laying around from my old home-studio, so it wasn't a cost for me now.
Normal isolation is cheaper I guess, but takes more space for same result.

I was scanning the images and saw the panels low on the floor. I thought... this guy's crazy... how in the world is that going to work?...
Then I saw the next few pictures of how that small unit unfolds. GENIUS! Excellent work! I can't listen now, but if that's functional for you, then you've really hit a homerun, G-Sun! Nice work. They looks great for a booth.

Thanks! Yes, it seems give good results. At lot of work with that unfolding one. But it's really easy to take down and put away.
Just 10 seconds and I have window-light through the room
