Default Using version 6.77 and MIDI step recorder isn't working (SOLVED)

Solution:

Shift click chordgun.

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=227554

My issues below:

I have enabled the midi step sequencing via the midi take: untitled midi item midi editor menu button.

If I press the record button it will not step record, but normal record.

If I press any midi virtual keys or the keyboard in the editor, it does not step record.

I've watched and tried both videos from YouTube:

and

and

I have "Use all MIDI inputs for step recording" enabled.

It is not working. What am I missing?

It could be a window focus issue. Step insert works for me when using my USB midi keyboard, but only when the midi editor is focused. If I click in the virtual midi keyboard window, it doesn't work for step insert, and my USB keyboard stops working as well, until I click back in midi editor again...

I believe a documented limitation is also that you must use an external midi device of some kind and the virtual MIDI keyboard cannot be used for step input.

Edit: you can also use the function keys, but on Mac that's not really a thing for most users unless you change the Mac defaults to instead function as regular function keys.
