Default Selecting soundcards in Reaper?

I have been using Reaper now for a long time - but our new workstation has five different soundcards, some stereo and some 5.1 or 7.1. I can't find a way to switch outputs from one to another. OS is W10.

In all other apps I can switch using the regualr 'Sound Output' menu in W10. Suggestions?

What available outputs are available on your Master track output routing?

-> master track
-> Routing
-> click Add new hardware output dropdown list

You need to pick the audio interface you want to use for Reaper in Preferences->Audio->Devices.

That's my problem - I just get L, R, L/R but no hardware list.

The same applies to Preferences->Audio->Devices. Just L and R no hardware mentioned.

I've managed a work-around for what I am doing right now, but in future I need to be able to switch hardware.

I am obviously missing something that I ought to know backwards - but what?

Assuming you use ASIO as your driver, maybe not all of those 5 soundcards have ASIO drivers? Then pick WASAPI as your driver.

It sounds like you have <default system devices> selected in Reaper Preferences/Audio/Device page. This defers to your OS audio control panel selection. The other option (and actually the first choice for stable operation) is to choose the connected audio interface directly in Reaper. Select the interface you want to use from that device menu instead of <default system devices>. If you want to use multiple connected interfaces together, look up making an aggregate device.

You have 5 pci card interfaces on the same machine? Heh.

BINGO! That did it! Suddenly music floods the editing room where none was there before! Audio System - 'Direct Sound'.

Silly me!

But thanks - the downside is that now I have to work. Damn!
