Make midi half-tempo?

Hi!

I have a problem - when dragging midi loops (in half-tempo) from my VSTi Strum GS-2, the midi is not half-tempo in Reaper(its full tempo), probably a bug in Strum, but I was thinking, maybe there is an action in Reaper that can fix that? Cant find anyone because I dont know what to search for.

Is it possible to change full-tempo midi to half-tempo?

Sure, there are quite a few ways to do it and I'll show you three to get started.

1. Click on the offending MIDI item and then either right-click on it for the context menu->Item Properties... or simply press F2. In the Playback rate, change the value to 0.5 (if I understood correctly and it's all playing back twice as fast as it should, otherwise try 2.0). Then click OK or Apply. The last step is to drag the item's right edge out until everything is displayed, as this process will most likely have left half of the contents hidden inside a container that is now too small.
2. In the same Item Properties window as the one we used above, instead of changing the playback rate you can go down to Take media source->Properties... then Ignore the project tempo to set a different tempo.
3. If the item length is really regular (e.g. exactly 8 bars), then just Alt+drag on the item edge to stretch it. Make sure you have snap enabled and then you can drag it out to exactly twice as long fairly quickly.

You can always glue the items after you're done if you don't want the possibility of any confusing side-effects later on.

I liked the rate example, now I need to find an action to set rate to 0.5 :-)
Have found "Set item rate to 1.0" but no 0.5.....hmmm, and the others I found
uses 0.6% ???

Time for a FR? ;-)

Why don´t you grab the item while holding alt -> this streches items (midi & audio).
When you have snap to grid enabled it will also stay on the beat, if not you can freely shrink or stretch.

Edit:
Just tried the above.
You can open the properties window alongside you are doing your changes, you will see the playbackrate change.
If you reach the point where you are satisfied you can glue (thats another story to tell) and the new size will jump to 1.0 pb-rate.

I found a script by X-Raym!

Wrote to him and he changed it to put rate to 0.5, so
now I got an action on a button to fix it when needed.

So cool that the script is changing the size of Item
in a flight. And that it took only a few minutes for
him to answer and change the script to my wishes!

You can stretch any item to any time selection. I mapped it to F4 here, as I use this quite often. You could use this technique, for example.

Side comment: practice coach could do repetitions based on counts, rather than time. Another setting option maybe? Thanks also for implementing auto-continue already.

Interesting - havn't seen that yet.

Here the official action name:
Item: Move and stretch items to fit time selection

Reaper has already anything, you only need to know about it. Ok, I am using F3 for that, F4 was something else, which I also mapped to a side mouse button:
