Default Record MIDI overdub from parent onto child NOT possible?

Hi there,

I want to input midi to track A and then midi record overdub the data to
track B. I have successfully been able to record midi to track B by selecting `record: output (MIDI)` on track B, but this only allows me to record to new takes. Is it not possible to record over dub midi at the same time as I get the midi data from another track?
Basically, what I want is track A to act sort of as a global input FX chain (like an input router) and therefor I want the ability to overdub record midi to child tracks.

Please, tell me if you don't understand and I'll try to reformulate myself.

If this is not possible I am thinking that this would call for a feature request.

Afaik combining record output (MIDI) and overdub is not possible (currently), unfortunately.
I ran into the same limitation at some point:

I'd be up for supporting it. (not sure if there's an existing one already though).

edit2:
You may be able to work around it by using virtual MIDI (loopback) ports (e.g. loopMIDI), by sending it out to a virtual port on track A and back in on a virtual port on track B (where you then can use record input instead of output).

Thanks for informing me about this nofish. In that case I'll write a script hook that configures all my tracks with an appropriate midi pre processor when I arm my tracks.

Interesting idea with the loopback thing. Do you think that would cause noticeable latency? I'd be down to try that but I'm probably gonna write a script first since that is quite easy.

I tried it back then and couldn't recognize any noticable latency.
Didn't make any in depth tests though.
