What's your main (go to) synth?
All the great music makers usually have one music making tool that they use and stick with (limitations and all), Dr. Dre uses the MPC, Diane Warren (one of the best songwriters of our time) still uses the DX7 for songwriting, some still use the ASR-10, ect.
They say learn your tool inside and out and that's when you'll become the most productive. Well with so many great synths out there (omnisphere, Z3ta+, Minimonsta, Massive, ect.) which synth do you use as your all purpose go to synth? For me I would have to say Omnisphere does it all for me, and it's so easy to program and make your own sounds.

Absynth. People say it's only good for pads but I'd say those people really haven't pushed it to its limits yet.

I'd have to say Atlantis. Pretty straightforward and the custom envelope generators have helped me get most sounds.
While it's great if I want to sculpt / program the sound lately I've been seeking for more of a sample/preset based approach. Like play around with presets, hear a killer sound that almost immediately inspires a song - love it when that happens.
Sid.

Hard to say. In no special order:
Elektrostudio Pack
Synth1
OLGA
Kontakt
Zebra
SQ8L
Minimonsta
Korg Legacy Collections
I use these more than any other, I guess.

First is AAS Ultra Analog, which I got for an insane price during a no brainer deal. I just like the sound of it.

Although I have Ace and UltraAnalog, at the moment it's Tassman.
Just love the sound and versatility of it.

I use PianoTeq Pro.
Dirty style gets Wurly, Sustained gets Rhodes, Percussive get the Piano.
Then when I have organized the notes, the sounds from Solaris and Kontakt take over from there.
I like Solaris for many reasons but 96k audiorate modulations are uncomprimised. Even the effects modulate in realtime artifact free.

Zeta2 is a monster for about anything you can imagine. The recent fix to the botched rollout pretty much cured what ailed it. Seems to be getting great aftermarket support with several patch libraries out already, plus it handles all the original Zeta presets perfectly.
The Arturia Jupiter 8V is also pretty impressive. It's not a 100% spot-on copy but if you want the 80s in a box, there ya go. I love it.

Omnisphere I guess, if you want to count it as a synth. Otherwise, I suppose, Sylenth1.

Alchemy (Camel)
Superwave P8 (Superwave)
Proteus (EMU)
Dominator (Computer Music)
Delay Lama (Audio Nerds) :0)
And, while not synths, Addictive Drums and Drumatic 3 are my go-to's for drums
Cheers

It would be razor if it/reaktor wasn't such a steaming pile
For now the "go to" would most likely be Dune because it pretty much always sounds good and it' pretty easy to use/stable.

[wistful rave/rant=on] back in th' day, I used the hell out of my Ensoniq VFX. I would probably still use it if it wasn't built, structurally, like a piece of crap and it didn't keep rebooting.
Ah, if only all you (hw) synth engineers would build something with those quick-change patch buttons on the side and more importantly, poly-key pressure. In fact it is ridiculous that no synths today have it. Ridiculous. It's like we've gone backwards turning knobs in realtime, instead, wasting a hand. And cartridge storage! (Ok maybe I'm a giant dork for thinking that was cool).
But I digress. [wistful rave/rant=off]
I would use my Micron to that extent if the guy had usb in it. I can't believe they didn't make some kind of 'super-micron' when they released the silly $100 extra 'blue' version withOUT USB. Gah.
But that's not what you asked, either.
I would say my go-to synth at the moment is Synplant - $100 of sw goodness from the guy who designed Reason's kickass Malstrom synth.
If Magnus made a hw synth I'd buy that doodad yesterday.

Same here up to a point. I go to Alpha or ZebraCM/Zebralette for digital-sounding stuff.
Just noticed Big Tick Rhino is a $20 no-brainer at audioMIDI right now. Think it will compliment Ultra Analog nicely, so what the hey... I just bought it.

I use to think like you, that Omnisphere was not a synth but just a sample playback vsti only, but after messing around with it for a while I realize that it is a full fledge synth. Even if you didn't use any samples at all then it still would be a powerhouse synth, it just sound so nice. Personally I like using the sampled waveforms along with the synthesized waveforms to create new patches, it's quick and easy. Although for me UltraAnalog and Junatik are 2 of the easiest synths to program.

Do you know if Korg has demos available for the legacy stuff? I've read that they do, but I'm not seeing them on their site.

They did have demos requiring an ilok back in the day, but since they dropped that POS dongle they haven't had demos out, as far as I know. I got the Special bundle (all their sw-synths) for $99 as an upgrade from the M1 LE synth I got along with my nanopad, that's $100 off - pretty good deal since I got my nanopad for $34.
Ironically M1 is the last synth I'd consider using...

Thanks, I was looking everywhere on their site for a demo. I'm mostly interested in the ms20 emulation. I guess I can either buy or not. Any opinion on it?
The main synths that I've been using are:
Oatmeal
Malstrom
I'm not a typical synth user, I suppose. I don't really make electronic types of music.

That and Kontakt are pretty much the only ones I currently use. (Plus Addictive Drums.)

Not really, haven't used it much. I mainly got the package for nostalgic reasons - we had a polysix at hi school and I used to own a wavestation ex. It sounds nice enough, but I'm usually kicking up ultra analog as mentioned above.
