Default bullshark/funkster....

i am currently uploading the new mp3 ruff mix of i am the reaper
song we are working on.
to my motagator site.(address at bottom,,,,page down for i am the reaper mp3 mix. )
should be ready for downloading in 10 minutes.
i sincerely hope you like what ive done....
but feel free to criticise any aspect including the comic
little closing sentence right at end of song....lol.
feel free to make suggestions of any kind.

i will try and post the rpp in a day once ive consolidated/ogged etc. need a little break. feel free to edit it/amend/new tracks...whatever. i'll post in this thread when ive uploaded it.

ps...i just got word from motagator the mp3 uploaded
successfully. i just downloaded it.....link works great and it plays fine.
ive also added you both as co writers/producers of the song.
the next step i suggest is we together have a discussion about what might need to be done further to improve the song.
i have some ideas and i'm sure you do too.
all the best.

one thing to note...funkster/shark.
the new mp3 at motagator is missing the flying reaper fx in the middle.(at 00:43)
its in the rpp which i'll be posting for you., and i'll include it in the next mix.

Hi,

thingie-ma-jingie moving forward some, threads are now split...

See this thread for the latest rpp and mp3:

http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2183

some things to solve considering timing of the drums still, and tuning my bass to the rest of the song which I'm making headway with.

Ho, and you've got pm.

Na, no problemo tuning. But then my JX-305 doesn't alway sound like being in good tune.
Seriously though, no, but then maybe I didn't care too much for the tuning as of yet ?

@bull: I'll try to go illico presto.

funkster....
tell me what you think of the new rpp at your leisure.
(just hit play.....mix is already set up..)..
youll notice ive set up your own folder with your parts in them
and everything set up as to level/pan etc.
i added a little synth part to blend in with your fine little part on the outtro,....and some other things......if you dont like the blend or the other touches...tell me.

lol...hell will freeze over before i ever delete that piano diddle at end. its evocative/reaperish.. and perfect.
lol....i'll fight tooth and nail on changeing that in the song.

funkster....
what files do you need ??
everythings in the new rpp i posted a link to back in this thread.
in the new rpp is a folder in track view named funkster.
just load the rpp...and play it to record new tracks.
it includes sharks drums...which i think the arrangement is perfect for the song.
whats open right now is sharks bass track, and maybe as you said you want to add more maybe hammond etc.
and see how that flies then maybe the 3 of us should discuss and agree what else the track needs.
please feel free also to critique my vocals and the little
"talky vignettes" ....lol....i put in .
its all in the new rpp.
get back to me what you need.

Ah ok, I see the problem. is that I sent a pm to funkster so he try the FTP I setup since I was still trying to find what was wrong with that. Seems I can't log in myself when using Firefox (which I tried after funkster told me that's what he was using), it only seems to work with CuteFTP and IE so far, doesn't work with Firefox or Opera for some reason. Too bad because it would have made project management much easier. Anyway, I scrapped the whole idea, can't get it to work at all with Firefox.

@Funkster, like manning said, all you need is in the rpp, and you can listen to where I'm at with the bass from the mp3 I posted in the other thread.

OK guys,

manning, sorry I have completely missed the link in the post.
I'm going to download right now to see how it's moving forward.

@bullshark: I could install CuteFTP again, I do have it somewhere on one of my backup/archive CD's. Don't know if it's still worth the trouble, as the project is moving towards it's end, filewise at least I think.
If someone still adds a little something, it's easy to upload just that file with the new .rpp

@manning: your voice has quite a broad range of timbres IMHO, so don't feel too shy, everything seems to fit like a glove

So, back to work (on the song).

Raphael

funkster/shark....
ok....i'll wait to hear further from you both.
glad you got the link ok funkster for the new rpp.
if you notice funkster i set up a special folder for you (and shark)....in the new rpp.
if you need to add a track ...i learnt a little trick (you prolly know it....but just in case...)....just click on the bottom track in your folder funkster then in menu add track...et voila a new blank track is added within your folder to record in the track pane to record to. i discovered it by accident....lol.

i dont know about you guys....but this has been a fun learning experience.
if anything is needed from me please shout or any clarifications either of you need.
thanks for your kind words on my vocal funkster.
its not my normal singing voice....but i thought it fitted the genre of the song. the whole idea being a touch evilish...
and a touch of comedy....lol.
funkster please (and shark too)tell me anything you hate that i did. for example that end bit where i say in a cockney english accent...."cor i'd like to hug that reaper"...lol.
not sure if that works or not and need your opinions as well as the other parts. peace.

Hi folks,

feeling like we're reaching the end of the project, heh?

Manning, your additions seem to work quite well. Only there's a few niggles I have concerning the mixing. Would you mind if I try some alternate mix with proper busses for Vox, Drums etc.?
The JS Delay on the master bus i.e. doesn't do it for me. It's nice for the vox instead of a Reverb, but it's not so cool for the drums IMHO.

Also I feel that the 'Hey man that's wicked' doesn't fit too well???

And what's with the bunch of empty tracks in the middle? Can I trash 'em? They're only taking up screen real estate and make mixing with a MCU emulation (BCR2000) kind of difficult.

No Bass neither?

Let me know what you think.

funkster.....my reply...
1. sure ....feel free to do an alternate mix.
2. the js delay on master was just there temporarily for wetness and to save straining the system while i was getting the idea down. in mixing a whole different set up i was anticipating.
this was just for getting the song foundation laid.
3. the blank tracks in the middle i was leaving just in case they were needed. but sure trash em. can always add ones at the end if needed.
4...re...wicked....yeh ...maybe an alternate comedy line is needed there....no probs...got any ideas ??
i want something really funny that makes folks fall off their chairs laughing....lol.
5. re bass....shark pm'd me ...i think he will have bass done in a couple of days.
happiness funkster n' feel free to be creative.
i'm open to asnything.
if it sounds good IT IS GOOD. so feel free.

OK, I'm gonna start mixing from monday on, since it's weekend again, and I'm never at home on weekends.
If til' monday there's still no Bass, I might try to add a bassline myself, if that's OK with you guys?

Have a nice weekend folks!

you have a nice weekend too funkster.
yeh this is a collab effort...feel free to do anything you wish.
its just a production song to have fun with.
my main objective (and i hope you guys agree...)...is... i wanted to evoke the reaper as being some wonderfull fun guy to hang out with sorta idea (cos i suspect "J" is a pretty cool bloke)...thus i wanted a comedic attitude in the song...so if you have any ideas for as the french say comedic "bon mots" .....or anything else..go to it.

re...what you asked in other thread about singing styles....lol..
wait till you hear my elvis impression..lol...dunno if i'm as good now as i'm gettin older...but its a fun genre to have fun with. maybe we'll do an elvis genre next......lol...lol.

for me songwriting is all about haveing fun.
and takeing any arrows in the back if folks dont like a particular song, and just trying harder with a new song the next time. what i mean to say is...if someones a songwriter like me and worries constantly what people think ..then...one wouldnt ever get a song finished. ive seen this with many friends of mine.
they have spent a zillion times what i have on gear, and are so paranoid about criticism they never put a song out there ya know ??
a little history funkster...once i owned a nice studio years ago...but had to sell it off to help family (very elderly) with probs. but thats life. so for quite a time ive been produceing songs with cast off/diy gear lol.
but an old saying is you use what gear ya got.
thats why i appreciate yours and sharks help.
its a nice breath of fresh air to work with other folks like i used to years ago. i like it.

Well, that's what it should be IMHO.
And you know, that thing about being paranoid of releasing your own stuff, I know a little bit about this.

First, I don't think I'm a good musician (maybe I'm not a musician at all, because for me a REAL musician is someone capable of adapting any style in no time, knowing his theory/harmony etc. and this definitely isn't the case for myself).
Secondly, I'm kind of a perfectionist too. So I never cease tweaking things 'n stuff, although I'm starting to settle a bit now.

I take a lot of pleasure working with you and shark too, because of the loose objectives, not stressing each other for getting things done etc., even though my contributions are not exactly manifold.
Sure the song should be finished in a not too distant future, but hey, we're having other things to do as well.

As for my gear, it's mainly cheap or old stuff I have, but I can't justify spending a few grands on studio gadgets, even if I'd like to. And then I don't have these few grands
So I do what I can with what I have.
There was a time when I started recording with an old Tascam 4-Track Cassette recorder, a drummachine and my guitar, I have been much more creative then now, having all this digital stuff at my disposition.
This also tells something, don't you think?

Anyway, would you mind if I upload our song to my SOUNDCLICK?

funkster....
re...soundclick...
no objections from me unless shark has any concerns.
re...4 track...its funny you should mention that scenario.

in my early days recording i was asked to remix/part re record a song done at a huge studio by a band.
just had a 8 track multitrack at that point.
so i pointed out my lack of experience being totally honest n told em (the band)...i'll have a bash n' they could trash it if not happy.
worked like a bugger on it.
much to my surprise the band preferred what i did.
maybe i was luky or maybe it was the hard work..dunno...
but it proved to me early on that sometimes recording simply without letting the gear choices get in the way has sometimes advantages. limited gear choices sometimes is a plus.

off to have another go at a song.
my problem is..i write too many new songs a month but never time to produce them the way my stupid brain hears em.
twas ever thus.

shark...
i replied to your 2 pm's.
