LoL... ok now I'm really confused....
What I'd like to do is be able to clk anywhere in the ME and have that clk set the pitch row...
I assume that would want to be an action, used with a mouse mod
So do I need your lua for that?
Do I need the newest pre for that?
I don't see any action to set the pitch row currently...

LOL, sorry.
Ok, let's start over.
Open the MIDI editor, single left click in the piano roll (where the grid is, not the piano keys), then you should see the note row moving as you click.
And this works with your current installed Reaper version.

Oh you are so nicely right... I had a mouse mod set that got in the way of that... so easy fix... thank you again...
still a ways to go using the save\restore grid in some custom actions but it sure works great.... super useful to me

Perfect, glad it all works out! Happy action adjusting, I know it takes a lot of time, but we know it's worth it

_Stevie_, thanks again for the two lua's....
I've been using them and recently noticed they don't save and restore one part of the 'grid'....
That is the grid type.... straight, dotted, triplet, etc.
Which as it turns out has become important...
Now I can do workarounds for my own needs, but wonder if you see a way for them to include that setting???

Actually, it should work with all these (except swing).
I'll have a look.
EDIT: works here

yes... seem that it does... don't know what the hell I was seeing... but let me ask this...
there is also one more setting, at the bottom of the MIDI Ed., to the right of the grid type, ...where it says Notes... and gives the options again of note length and type... AND the option of "Grid"
Now I need that setting to always remain at Grid... and I have done that with little custom action that I put at the end of each of the insert note Custom actions I'm making... but I wonder if that setting to Grid could be built into the Save and Restore lua's?
If it's super easy, good.. If not, no prob since I already have it done for my own needs

Kewl.... well like I say, I have it done for my needs via a little custom action... but if you want to add it or show me how to edit the lua's you made to include it... that would be sweet. %^)

I just checked, if you set the note length to grid, it doesn't change, when you restore the grid. Does it on your machine?
Do you have activated this option in the action list?
Set length for next inserted note: grid

yes that is correct
IF it is already set to Grid and you Save and Restore
it stays on Grid
However, IF you Save with it set to Grid, and before Restore, you change from Grid to something else, and then Restore if does not go back to Grid
I hope that is what you see...
the way I have solved it for my needs is to make a little custom action
that I put last in my "insert note actions"...
Even after the Restore grid lua...
It is:
Grid: Set grid type to straight
Set length for next inserted note: grid
So without that the lua for Save and Restore grid, might now return me to the total settings I started from, when other changes take place between Save and Restore.

It actually should be fairly easy to include this, but apparently, a function does not work as expected. Asking the devs...

The function I need, is not yet implemented, however, I solved it in a different way. Not as pretty and clean, but works. Will replace it, as soon as cockos includes the function.

Ok... well let's see how that goes.... LoL....
god bless the DEV's...for all they do, and yet there have been many req's for a few things that would be expected to be fairly easy changes that have been hanging for years...
here's one: In the FX browser, dealing with user made folders... why is there no hot key to move them up or down? Instead we have to clk way to many times and with each clk move a given folder up or down one notch.... totally insane IMHO
