I mixed one song in reaper in 2007. Since then, if I still had the same computer I would see that I have run Reaper hundreds of times well past the 60 days. I haven't recorded or mixed any thing until a couple days ago. I just fired it up over the years to check out the updates. Back in the old days I would beta, I am proud to say my feature request for the option for negative values on the time line was implemented.
So as to actual use, I think I am about 15 to 20 days in.
I don't feel guilty yet, should I?
Besides, everyone on Earth can be a licensed user through August 31!
Back in my old Cakewalk forum days I was attacked several times as a Pirate, I was actually on their beta team so I was sort of running it for free if my time was worthless. But the responses on this topic brought back some old memories.
The OP must be a troll or very dull. But then again, what did I just do!
Don't worry, I will be sending my $60 when my next SSI is in the bank as I plan to record some more while I still can.

Most those were beta test messages in the early days. As I made a living as a computer programmer, that side of reaper philosophy was what first Interested me. Or just post of opinion on various subjects when I dropped into the forum. As I said, I have mixed 2 songs in reaper, one in 2007 and one in 2020.
The mix in 2020 took one day, as it was simple and used recording I made in Sonar before Reaper existed.

Don’t know. If you hardly use it maybe not. I hate draconian DRM and iLok so when Cockos does the opposite and shows trust in me as a user I do return the favor.

If I had downloaded for more than checking out Justin and team's progress I think I might feel guilty.
As I said, now that I plan on using it for its intended purpose they will be payed my small contribution for their work.

Yeah, I don't get using any other approach. They have a 60 day evaluation period and you are told to make a decision by then but they don't have Reaper stop working with a scolding alert. It works through day 70 and day 90 and day 5,000. So if you procrastinate or you work on audio only once a month you technically can register on day 71 or day 91 and you aren't faced with an expired demo. Beyond that, the mindset that something can be used for free as long as it's possible to use it for free, despite what the developers request, is one of those things that separates people who are serious about the field and those who are not. If you don't take seriously something like this, from the maker of a tool you use for your own creations, you shouldn't expect anyone to take seriously your creations.
$60 is not $460. $225 if your income using it exceeds $20,000. If it's not a priority to pay on day 200 make it a priority. Full stop. There is no argument in your favor. If you hardly use it, use something else. If you hardly use it and don't want to use something else it costs $60 after 60 days. If you keep using and don't feel guilty I don't know what to tell you, except that feeling guilty or not isn't a yardstick for anything here.

I really like that way of looking at it. It comes down to professionalism. If I met a client who used cracked software I wouldn’t do business with them. Not to make a moral point but simply because I wouldn’t trust them.

Mr West has manouvered himself out of anyones trust lately, hasn't he?
If they hauled up a laptop with a lot of cracked software on it I would have trust issues, yes. Don't much matter who they are to me...I'm not so star struck.

I don't know, I don't follow him.
Well they showed their cracked plugins.

If someone is that successful and won't pay for the tools they use to make money, that says something about them I think.
I would pay to see deadmau5 show his crack though.

Nah, everyone was clear. My specific query was if there were restrictions for unregistered copies. Clearly they aren't officially, but the last update was a serious ballache. So I guess I don't have to buy.

If you mean none of them were showing after an update, then that sounds suspiciously like you may have installed the wrong version of Reaper - 64bit vs 32bit

Domzy: You`re just helping him avoid paying for what he is using....assuming it really IS that.
Recently, I have been wondering about setting up a business to do conscience-removal surgery, but these days it looks like I wouldn`t make much money from it.

I find it laughable when people who can afford to pay plenty of $$$ for a computer, peripherals and whatever recording equipment they have claim suddenly to have become too impoverished to afford the $60 for software.
I think I'd have more respect for them if they just said they're not intending to pay because they can get away with it - at least that's truthful.
I'd have even more respect for them if they themselves were willing to work for nothing, since they clearly expect the REAPER crew to.

Well my latpop costs about $120. I bought a used one, because price-quality ratio is much better with used machines.

Yeah it's a good time to be a scavenger right now! There's a good 10 years of very high tech out there. Some of it that was and still is exorbitantly expensive to buy new but can be found for pennies on the dollar.
I guess I splurged on my laptop then at $235.
2011 Macbook Pro with the GPU in the 2nd "graphics card" failed. (AMD **** the bed that year.) Hacked the firmware to make it identify as a single graphics package machine. This thing rocks with the cooling dedicated to just the CPU with integrated GPU. A 15" MBP with this processing goes for $4200 at the Apple store. F that. And I never needed that 2nd "gamer" GPU to begin with.
But I still paid for Reaper. This software is happiness and light.

My laptop has only 4 years. It's not very powerful, but it's pretty good. i5-6200U + GeForce 940M. I bought it on spring 2019. Oh, you really saved dozens of money. $4000 is more than 4 times bigger than the average salary in the country I'm living in. I've wanted to exchange the license of the synth I've got as one of the challenge winners with Reaper license, because it costs the same. I wrote a post on this forum and one generous man made me a present. That was really great.

I'm being a little hyperbolic. Apple isn't Apple anymore. You could get a similar spec machine for probably $2000 and go Hackintosh. My price still wins! (But also required some DIY) This is one of the quad i7 2.5 - 3.6GHz models. Post Steve Jobs Apple products are absurd.

I don't know, never had apple products. Regarding your configuration, I got it now. After they went ARM hackintosh won't work anymore.

I imagine they'll have OSX broken by then and we won't really care. And then it will be time for DIY builds and Linux and leave all the wreckage behind.
